Responsibilities

  • Function as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team within the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health.
  • Deliver care in outpatient setting with secondary responsibilities in consult and inpatient service as needed.
  • Provide care to new or established patients.
  • Demonstrate autonomy through patient evaluation, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care.
  • Order testing as deemed necessary and remain proficient in interpreting results.
  • Prescribe appropriate medication and therapeutic regimen within the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner.
  • Undertake roles in cooperation with nursing, staff physicians, and other department staff, including triage, telephone communication, and patient education.

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of a nurse practitioner program approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing or completion of CAAHEP - approved program for physician assistants.
  • Eligible or certified by AANP, ANCC for NP.
  • Eligible or certified by the National Commission on Certification of PA's and certified by State Board of Medicine.
  • NPS licensed by State Board of Nursing.
  • Mental health certification or willing to obtain within 2 years of hire.

Preferred

  • PMHNP certification preferred.
  • Experience in a professional psychiatric setting such as a psychiatric inpatient unit or psychiatric consultation or emergency service.

Job Summary

Demonstrates autonomy through patient evaluation, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care. Orders testing as deemed necessary and remains proficient in interpreting results and prescribing appropriate medication and therapeutic regimen within the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner. These roles, undertaken in cooperation with nursing, staff physicians and other department staff, may include triage, telephone communication and patient education.

Job Duties

+ JOB SUMMARY:

Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team within the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Health at Geisinger. Delivers care in outpatient setting with secondary responsibilities in consult and inpatient service as needed. Primary reporting is to Chief of Advanced Practice, who reports up through the Director of Adult Outpatient Psychiatry, Director of Consult and Emergency and/or Director of Inpatient Unit based on assigned work area.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Graduate of a nurse practitioner program approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing or completion of CAAHEP - approved program for physician assistants.

Eligible or certified by AANP, ANCC for NP.

Eligible or certified by the National Commission on Certification of PA's and certified by State Board of Medicine.

NPS licensed by State Board of Nursing.

Mental health certification or willing to obtain within 2 years of hire.

*PMHNP preferred.

Experience in a professional psychiatric setting such as a psychiatric inpatient unit or psychiatric consultation or emergency service is preferred but not essential.
