The University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing at Galveston is seeking full-time faculty for the PhD Program Director position in the Department of Graduate Studies. - Provides input to the Graduate Department Chair regarding faculty teaching and workload assignments and performance appraisals.
- Conducts PhD Program Team meetings providing guidance in all program-related matters.
- Assumes responsibility for data collection and completion of monitoring tools for the Systematic Evaluation Plan (SEP).
- Facilitates innovative educational initiatives for the PhD program.
- Assumes responsibility, in conjunction with the Vice Dean, for contributing to all official reports of the PhD program.
- Provides input to the Vice Dean and Department Chair in the management of the operational budget for the PhD program.
- Acts as a representative and advocate of the PhD program within the School of Nursing, UTMB, and the community of interest.
- Oversees curriculum matters pertaining to the PhD Program.
- Provides program-specific orientation for new PhD faculty and students.
- Works collaboratively with other academic programs within the School of Nursing and other schools within UTMB.
- Works with the SON Office of Student Affairs to implement marketing strategies to attract a diverse PhD student population.
- Collaborates with the SON Office of Student Affairs to ensure that PhD students meet all graduation requirements.
- Facilitates student advisement within the context of the SON PhD academic program policies and procedures.
- Facilitates PhD program faculty decision-making on education matters in collaboration with the Vice Dean, Department Chair, and Dean of the SON.
- Serves as an ex-officio member to the SON Graduate Program Admissions & Progressions Committee and the SON Curriculum Committee.
Qualifications
Required
- Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and eligibility for licensure in the State of Texas.
- Established program of research and a record of successful research productivity, scientific collaboration, and PhD-level teaching and mentorship.
- Competent and significant experience teaching at the university level.
- Knowledge of best practices in online and hybrid teaching models.
- Extensive experience with all PhD education facets, including student teaching and research mentorship, faculty mentorship, curricular development and implementation, and formative and summative program evaluations.
- Evidence of successful academic administrative leadership experience.
- Tenure eligible and meets criteria for the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
Preferred
- Teaching experience at the university level.
- Clinical experience in their specialty area.
- Defined program of research or scholarship.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Strong potential for developing a funded program of scientific research and evidence of scholarly achievement for faculty on research tenure track.

We are recruiting for the academic ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor, commensurate with the degree and experience.**
**Founded in 1890, the School of Nursing was the first nursing program in the Southwest and one of the first schools in the U.S. to be affiliated with a university in 1896. As a component of the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), the school of nursing offers academic programs at the baccalaureate (traditional and RN-BSN), Masters (Family, Adult/Geriatric, Acute Care, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Leadership, Nurse Educator) and Doctoral Programs (DNP and PhD in collaboration with the Graduate School). UTMB provides a rich interprofessional environment conducive to teaching, practice, and research across the Schools of Nursing, Medicine, Health Professions Sciences, and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
