Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Intern assists in the efficient and accurate preparation, dispensing, and delivery of pharmaceuticals and supplies. - Assist with bulk compounding of special products.
- Label products and complete appropriate packaging records according to hospital policy.
Qualifications
Required
- Enrollment in a professional program at an accredited College of Pharmacy.
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Pharmacy Intern.
- Analytical ability necessary to assure swift resolution of fairly complex math programs.
- Thorough knowledge of generic / trade names, aseptic technique, safe handling of antimicrobials, biological, and hazardous materials.
- Verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of health care professionals.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions with accuracy, speed, and dependability.
- Must be able to take direction from pharmacists and refer clinical issues appropriately.
- Diplomacy, tact, and listening skills.
- Ability to read, interpret and write technical materials.
- Demonstrates computer keyboard familiarity and order entry skills, as well as light typing ability and capability to operate electronic dispensing equipment.
- Demonstrate manual dexterity and grip strength to safely perform complicated manipulation of sterile products.

The depth and magnitude of the intern's involvement is directly related to their academic standing or year of professional education.

2. Participate in educational programs and projects designed to improve the clinical and operational components of the department, and to develop the intern's philosophy relative to their responsibility in providing optimum care for the patient.

4. Assist the pharmacist in the extramporaneous preparation of parental products, following strict aseptic technique. Prepare antimicrobials, biological and antineoplastic agents following pre-established guidelines for safe handling.
