Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessment to obtain a complete and accurate record of the patient's clinical information and medical symptoms.
  • Order tests and exams to obtain additional information needed to ensure proper and complete care of patient.
  • Based on assessment, diagnose patient needs and determine a plan of care.
  • Interpret patient care tests and exams to guide care.
  • Provide for the treatment of the patient, including appropriate prescriptive practice.
  • Perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures as defined by Scope of Practice.
  • Appropriate and timely documentation of clinical care and code and bill accurately per protocol.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate education to increase the knowledge of patient, patient family, and others.
  • Train other staff in areas of clinical expertise.
  • Stay abreast of current trends in healthcare practice and participate in continuing medical education.
  • Coordinates and collaborates patient care efforts with other care providers.
  • Communicates clinical information timely, accurately, thoroughly, and appropriately to other providers of patient care.
  • May participate in research and utilizes evidence-based practice to promote quality patient care.

Qualifications

Required

  • Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
  • Current state license as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Eligible for State Controlled Substance License II through V
  • Eligible for Federal DEA Certificate II through V
  • BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers
  • Other certification as required (e.g. ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP)
  • Applicable certification from a recognized certifying organization such as the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
  • Masters degree or higher (preferred)
  • Applicable experience as defined by position leadership (preferred)

**Psychiatry Advanced Practice Provider**

**About this role:**

As a Psychiatry Advance Practice Provider, you will work with a team of healthcare professionals committed to providing quality care and excellent patient experience.  Will provide care at the McKay Dee Access Center to provide medical screening exams, facilitate transfers for inpatient admission, and help stabilize patients in crisis. Intermountain Behavioral Health Access Centers offer psychiatric, and crisis care for people who are 18-years-old and older. We provide crisis intervention, observation, and fast access to mental health treatment. The Access Center is located within the hospital, adjacent to the Emergency Department and Behavioral Health Unit, allowing for escalation of care when needed. The Access Center is staffed by psych techs, registered nurses, peer support specialists, and social workers. There will be a psychiatrist working day shift in the Access Center allowing for close collaboration and consultation when needed. The psychiatrist and psychiatric APP will work hand in hand with other team members to assess patients and create an appropriate treatment plan.

+ You will practice at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah

+ 14-15 shifts per month with no call responsibilities

+ When fully staffed, there will be 2 shifts per day, 7AM to 5PM and 2PM to 12AM, 7 days a week

**What you'll bring:**

+ NP requirements:

+ PMHNP-BC required.

+ MSN or DNP with Post graduate certificate in psychiatry and mental health if specialty other than psychiatry

+ PA in Psychiatry requirements.

+ The PA must obtain and maintain a Certification of Added Qualification (CAQ) in psychiatry from the NCCPA

+ Have a doctorate level education - DMSC for PAs

+ Have a post-graduate certificate in psychiatry and mental health

+ Complete post-graduate residency (clinical hours) in psychiatry

+ Complete 10,000 hours of clinical practice in mental health

+ Active, unobstructed Utah medical license, or the ability to obtain one

+ BLS certification and DEA

+ Ability to successfully complete Intermountain Health's credentialing process

+ Candidates requiring Visa sponsorship will be reviewed on an individual basis

**Physical Requirements:**

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
