The Janitor/Custodian at The Salvation Army is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, washing, dusting, polishing, and cleaning restrooms and windows. - Inventory and replenish janitorial supplies.
- Responsible for exterior maintenance of Corps properties including removal of leaves and trash, as well as removal of snow and ice from sidewalks, walkways, steps and driveway.
- Assist with program activities: set up tables, chairs and other equipment for ongoing activities and special events.
- Receive food deliveries and donations and store in assigned areas.
- Take trash and recyclables out as per NYC Dept of Sanitation schedule.
- Inform the Corps Officer of damaged or unsafe conditions in the building.
- Attend staff meetings and workshops as needed.
- Receive and store donations and prepare for The Salvation Army truck pick up weekly.
- Willingness to pick up donations in Corps van.
- Assist Corps Officer with seasonal maintenance and activities (ie: kettle sign upkeep, driving volunteers/staff to assigned areas, Angel Tree program).
- Carry out other duties as assigned by Corps Officer
Qualifications
Required
- High School diploma or GED.
- Valid NYS driver's license.
- Ability to operate manual/power tools in a safe manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Ability to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
- Physically able to do rigorous manual labor, including lifting up to 50lbs.
Preferred
- Handyman/Tradesman skills.
- Spanish speaking ability.
