Under the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director, the Cytotechnologist is responsible for preparing and studying specimens to detect evidence of cancer or other pathologic conditions. Responsibilities
- Renders provisional interpretation based on microscopic examination of specimen.

- Maintains accurate logs, fills and statistics of cytology specimens for QA reports.
- Recognizes and maintains records of false positive and false negative cases
- Performs analysis on feasibility of results through correlation of data with common physiological conditions
- Brings suspicious cases to the attention of the pathologist for efficient turnover and special staining of specimens
- Ensures cases with abnormal findings are tracked. All abnormal cases' slides and follow up information is documented and kept for 20 years.
- Follows departmental procedures/operations/regulations and meets NYDOH and ISO accreditation agencies requirements.
- Participates in continuing education and required proficiency programs. All problems are investigated and correction action is documented when required.

Job Summary
