BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a passionate Veterinary Technician with a focus on oncology. Responsibilities
- Perform physical exam and accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert doctor when abnormal.
- Perform phlebotomy.
- Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
- Calculate basic medical math.
- Set up appropriate materials for chemotherapy administration.
- Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents.
- Safely dispense, reconstitute and administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents.
- Check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages.
- Properly shave and wrap for an IV catheter for chemotherapy infusion.
- Have knowledge of chemotherapy extravasation and what to do if it happens.
- Admit Oncology patients and obtain thorough history including current medications and dosages, response to treatment and side effects, intensity and duration.
- Discharge Oncology patients from the hospital, including basic client education.
- Maintain solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations.
- Address client concerns and answer them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization.
- Have knowledge of the tumor types.
- Understand diagnostic work-up protocols.
- Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role.
- Maintain hospital for day to day function and operation (stocking, cleaning, etc.).

Required
- Minimum of two or more years' experience in a specialty veterinary hospital.

- Ability to perform phlebotomy and place peripheral intravenous catheter.
- Basic medical math skills.

**As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:**
+ Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
+ Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperatureheart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
+ Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
+ Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heartand respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
+ Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
+ Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
+ Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
+ Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
+ Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
+ Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
+ Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
