The Field Engineer, Production Process at Boehringer Ingelheim is responsible for maintaining compliance requirements for refrigeration equipment, performing routine audits, addressing noncompliance issues, maintaining accurate records in various systems, and working with various departments to develop and oversee maintenance activities. Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance requirements for refrigeration equipment at BIAH sites.
  • Perform routine audits in both sites to ensure compliance requirements are exceeded.
  • Address noncompliance issues in a timely manner, with appropriate action plans and required reporting to corporate and regulatory functions.
  • Maintain accurate records in RCMS and CMMS systems of refrigerate use, procurement/inventory, and disposal at BIAH sites.
  • Work with engineering, maintenance and EHS personnel to develop appropriate engineering specifications, training, standard operating procedures and preventative maintenance tasks for all new and existing refrigeration equipment.
  • Provide necessary review and oversight of maintenance activities to ensure proper execution.
  • Coordinate with Planner/Scheduler and supervisors to ensure that adequate scheduling information is communicated and that work orders are completed within compliance windows.
  • Manage and track utilities usage to ensure accurate data is available for analysis and global reporting requirements.
  • Provide leadership in site energy committees.
  • Calculate and track savings realized from improvement initiatives.
  • Provide input and submit project IDEA’s into CPT system
  • Prepare and provide regular status updates for Site Services management and senior leadership within BIAH
  • Respond and participate in regulatory audits

Qualifications

Required

  • Knowledge of various computer programs including Microsoft Office programs, and various maintenance databases.
  • Utilization of good people and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in team oriented atmosphere.
  • High level of quality of work, attention to details, compliance to established procedure.
  • High level of technical knowledge relating to refrigeration equipment and experience with control or management of compliance related documentation.
  • Power User level or above in Maintenance Database.
  • Administrative level in Refrigerant Tracking Database.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Preferred

  • 10 years’ experience in a maintenance or industrial production environment.

The Field Engineer, Production Processes will provide mechanical technical and hands-on maintenance support to BIVI process/production operations with primary focus on filling, packaging, anaerobe, and bioreactor operations. The incumbent will provide technical troubleshooting as well as training in the setup and operation of production and utility equipment including all aspects of mechanical systems such as conveyors, cartoners, drives, fillers, turntables, bioreactors, tanks, agitators, pumps, compressors, water systems as well as basic electrical troubleshooting and maintenance support of instruments, controls, robots, vision, manipulating and production handling equipment. Hands on responsibilities for this position will include troubleshooting, PM, testing, repairing, modifying/improving and all aspects relative to good maintenance practices, equipment reliability and performance. This position will provide input to support engineering activities relative to design, estimating, proposing and implementation of projects involving electro-mechanical applications in setup, testing and acceptance of new equipment applications.

**Duties & Responsibilities**

+ Maintains production process equipment supporting production schedules and quality requirements. Duty may include additional operations equipment.

+ Troubleshoots and implements corrective action where equipment experiences performance issues.

+ Identifies, determines, and seeks approvals within guidelines for equipment upgrades to enhance performance and reliability.

+ Supports training of production & maintenance personnel relative to operations and care of electro-mechanical equipment.

+ Assists and supports engineering projects involving electro-mechanical applications relative to all facets of design, scope, performance parameters, testing and implementation.

+ Follows Company policy and SOP's relative to all aspects of this position including financial, environmental health and safety, training etc.

+ Particular attention is required to cGMP requirements for modification of production equipment.

+ Complies with regulatory requirements relative to the EU, FDA, USDA, APHIS, OSHA as well as local and state requirements of our business.

+ Performs additional duties as assigned by manager, to support operations.

+ Provides supervisory relief and coverage.

+ Utilizes CMMS per SOP to assure proper documentation of work as well as compliance with preventive maintenance (PM) requirements and timelines, including the development of such PM requirements.

+ Keeps current on new technologies impacting self-knowledge and the equipment.

**Requirements**

+ Five (5) years Mechanical maintenance & basic electrical experience in equipment common to biological, pharmaceutical or food processing.

+ Experience with the installation, maintenance, and operation of a wide range of manual and automated packaging & filling equipment.

+ Familiarity with other facets of bio-pharmaceutical production processes and equipment including fermentation, bioreactor, autoclaves, pure steam, WFI and associated biological production process equipment/systems is a plus.

+ College degree in an engineering related discipline and/or technical institute training and certification in mechanical manufacturing applications fields.

+ Leadership to supervisory experience is desirable.

+ PLC, controls expertise is a plus.

+ Knowledge of and experience working in a cGMP environment is desirable.

+ Knowledge of and experience with condition monitoring and predictive maintenance philosophy and technology is desirable.
