POSITION: Lead Teacher
REPORTS TO: Educational Director
STATUS: Full-time, Exempt
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associates degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field OR Child Development Associate credential, or, 9 credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field, with a plan leading to a Child Development Associate credential AND two years’ experience related to caring for children. One year of specific training and/or experience in infant or toddler care which may be demonstrated by obtaining an Infant Toddler Childcare credential.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Plan and implement an developmentally age appropriate curriculum for preschool
-Maintain child supervision per DOH regulations
-Comply with DOH regulations re: health and safety of children
-Maintain positive relationships with parents, co-workers, owner, community etc.
-Maintain records, produce daily child reports, child assessments, hold parent conferences
-Attend weekly teacher meetings and professional development opportunities
-Maintain confidentiality
-Maintain and organize all Curriculum Documentation for Site
-Maintain knowledge of curriculums, assess/train staff as needed
-Maintain classroom checklists
-Oversee Center responsibilities when Director is absent/off-site
-Other duties may be developed based on program need
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Be able to lift up to a 50lb. child and carry in case of an emergency
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lb. of equipment on regular basis
- Must support and implement policies and procedures of program
- Must carry out daily operations of program as directed by the owner
REQUIREMENTS:
- be fingerprinted by the Department of Investigation (DOI)
- have child abuse screening done by the State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment.
- have three (3) letters of reference from most recent employers.
- physical examination certificates for each member of staff.

The Lead Teacher must be registered for Article 47 Health Code mandated trainings. The Lead Teacher shall participate in a training curriculum which shall include, but not be limited to, the following topics:
- Preventing, recognizing signs of, and reporting injuries, infectious diseases, other illnesses and medical conditions;
- First aid and CPR;
- Lead poisoning prevention;
- Physical activities, scheduling and conducting guided and structured physical activity;
- Asthma prevention and management;
- Setting up and maintaining staff and child health records including immunizations;
- Growth and child development including:
- Early intervention;
- Early childhood education curriculum development and appropriate activity planning;
- Appropriate supervision of children;
- Meeting the needs of children with physical or emotional challenges;
- Behavior management and discipline;
- Meeting nutritional needs of young children;
- Parent, staff, and volunteer, communication and orientation: roles and responsibilities;
- The selection of appropriate equipment and classroom equipment;
- Safety and security procedures for fire safety, emergency evacuation, playgrounds, trips and transportation.
