**Job Description:**

The MRI technologist is responsible for compassionate and appropriate patient care while performing MRI examinations under the direction of a physician to assist in the medical diagnosis or treatment of injury.

The scope of responsibility includes facilities and departments as assigned by Imaging Services leadership and includes temporary shift assignments.

**Core responsibilities of this role include:**

+ Understands MRI safety concepts and executes them diligently and consistently to maintain magnet safety for patients, guests, self, and fellow caregivers.

+ Understands MRI scanning parameters and, in coordination with the radiologist, selects appropriate technical parameters and scanning techniques to ensure clinical exams are of good quality.

+ Ensures proper patient identification, order identification, and prepares the patient appropriately for the exam.

+ Performs MRI examinations according to system and department standard protocols.

+ Understands cross sectional anatomy and demonstrates appropriate anatomical positioning and multiplanar image reconstruction.

+ Under the direction of the radiologist or supervising clinician, performs contrast and medication administration inherent to MRI examination,

+ Maintains competency in all clinical and technical functions of the job.

+ Follows appropriate Intermountain policy and procedure including clinical documentation, billing, and electronic medical record workflows.

**Shift Details**

+ PRN position (on-call, as needed). Does require at least 1 shift per pay period.

+ 9-12 hr shifts, Weekends/Holidays

**Minimum Qualifications**

+ ARRT(MR) or ARMRIT certification

+ -or-

+ ARRT(R) certification with at least 1 year full-time experience in MRI

+ Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Bachelor's Degree in MRI or Advanced Radiologic Science

**Physical Requirements:**

+ Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

+ Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

+ Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

+ Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

+ Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)

+ May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

+ For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
