Qualifications

Required

  • Registered Nurse licensed in the state.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in nursing practice.
  • Leadership skills.
  • CHPN certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Reliable automobile, valid driver’s license, and minimum state required liability automobile insurance.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • One-year experience teaching adults in classroom and clinical area.
  • Knowledge of computer generated clinical records applications.

Full Job Description

Hospice of New York is looking for a full time RN Staff Educator to come join our team!

Hours of operation are 8:30am to 5pm, Monday through Friday in the office unless otherwise scheduled in the field.


JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the effective development, coordination and presentation of training and development programs for all employees. Assess and identify companywide developmental needs to drive training initiatives. Identify and arrange suitable training solutions for employees to promote and maintain competencies. Responsible for the planning and coordination of Staff Development activities for contracted facility and vendor staff. Assists in the promotion of the mission, policies, and procedures of the Hospice.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Collaborate with the various departments to plan, develop, implement and deliver training curriculum for varying levels of staff as an essential component of the Hospice orientation and in-service training programs.


Develop and maintain continual educational support and materials for clinical and administrative staff to ensure optimal level of productivity and performance.


Coordinate with the Clinical Director and QAPI Director to ensure that the in-service training provided complies with Federal, State and local regulatory requirements.


Demonstrates planning skills by ensuring adequate preparation for in-services/programs, including supplies, educational materials, and proper functioning of equipment used in the presentation.


Designs learning programs skillfully, incorporating adult education principles reflecting the following at all times:

  • Identified needs.
  • Clearly stated behavioral objectives and expected learning outcomes.
  • Content outline that matches objectives.
  • Appropriate methodology.
  • Adequate time allotment.
  • Appropriate evaluation methods
  • Current bibliography.


Consistently demonstrates the ability to educate and develop staff members for their new roles and responsibilities.


Provides core orientation and mandatory annual orientation classes for all levels of staff. Participates in Volunteer training as needed.


Periodically reviews and evaluates education programs and provides feedback. Revises programs as needed.


Ensures the participation of all personnel in educational programs and properly documents attendance.


Participates in facilitating educational experiences/in-services for contracted facilities and vendors in Hospice philosophy and Principles of Care, at least annually.


Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the job descriptions and key requirements for each position in the department.


Collaborates with the QAPI and HR Departments in the interpretation, monitoring, and maintenance of professional standards and regulatory agency requirements.


Develops, maintains, and reassesses staff competencies in clinical practice including age-specific needs.


Acts in the capacity of an on-site clinical resource to staff.


Functions as a role model.


Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities.


Participates on the Safety Committee.


Works flexible hours in assuming responsibility and accountability for providing Hospice and facility/vendor staff education.


Identifies own learning needs and sets goals towards improvement.


Consistently improves and updates practice including, but not limited to, changes in the field of Nursing and professional trends and current literature.


Independently seeks additional formal or informal learning experiences or education.


Fulfills responsibilities of position by seeking assistance from peers and supervisor, as necessary.


Promotes a safe, cooperative and professional health care environment to ensure optimum patient care.


Makes customer service a priority, treating contracted staff, affiliated facility staff, patients, families, and co-workers in a professional manner, exercising courtesy and tact. Effectively communicates with others about Hospice of New York’s services in their area(s) of expertise or responsibility and ensures that concerns, questions, or issues reach the right person at Hospice of New York in a timely fashion.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  1. Registered Nurse currently licensed in the state pursuant to Article 139 of the New York State Education Law.
  2. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Nursing preferred. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in nursing practice and leadership skills.
  3. One-year experience teaching adults in classroom and clinical area with demonstrated competence in program planning and principle and practice of adult learning is preferred.
  4. CHPN required within 6 months of employment.
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally with all levels of staff and management required.
  6. Proficiency of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point applications required. Knowledge of computer generated clinical records applications a definite plus.
  7. Must have reliable automobile, valid driver’s license, and the minimum state required liability automobile insurance.
