Full Job Description

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

As a member of the Materials Management Dept., the primary purpose of the Purchasing Supervisor’s position is to ensure the procurement of medical supplies, services and capital equipment is accomplished by following the appropriate BVHS policies and procedures. This includes supervising the department Buyers, Purchasing Coordinator and the Inventory Control Coordinator. The position is also responsible for chairing the Value Analysis Committee.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Duty 1: Through regular department meetings, provides coaching and mentoring for the purchasing and inventory control associates, encouraging growth and development of these associates to enhance the procurement and inventory control professionalism required in the health care industry.
  • Duty 2: In conjunction with the Materials Manager, meets with and negotiates with suppliers of equipment, services and medical supplies for BVHS to ensure best value for lowest cost is of primary focus.
  • Duty 3: Acting chairman for the Value Analysis Committee, a diverse group of BVHS associates whose purpose is to review alternate supplies, equipment and services for BVHS, in an organized fashion, to ensure value added patient care is of primary focus with the common goal of standardizing where ever applicable. Will also ensure end-users have input into all changes affecting their specific areas, prior to implementation.
  • Duty 4: Monitors and revises, as necessary, purchasing documents to ensure purchasing policies and procedures are adhered to by purchasing staff as well as other BVHS personnel. This includes routine contract review functions resulting in locally negotiated agreements or application of GPO contracts.
  • Duty 5: Review supply cost changes with Department Buyers, authorizing changes when deemed appropriate.
  • Duty 6: Supervises the efforts of the Inventory Control Coordinator to focus upon proper stocking levels and JIT application where appropriate and to ensure inventory is accurately maintained throughout BVRHC.
  • Duty 7: As a member of the Materials Management team, keeps the Materials Manager informed of relevant issues and concerns from the purchasing/inventory control perspective.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or significant experience required.
  • This individual must know how to generate data from the system and be able to analyze it effectively.
  • This individual must possess excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • This individual must be able to collaborate effectively with clinicians.
  • This individual must have a background in analyzing material cost components.
  • This individual must be an independent and motivated worker, able to demonstrate results.
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver’s license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state). You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.

  • Supervisor Experience preferred
