**The Role**

This position is for an Engineer Mechanical 3 within Department E26 - Aircraft Carrier Engineering Platform Piping Systems which is responsible for the engineering, design, project management, and performance of Aircraft Carrier Piping Systems. The person filling this role will be expected to develop procurement requirements for new components; conduct detailed analysis (pipe stress and flow) to support design improvements; develop and review component and system technical manuals; review 3D Product Models, drawings, and diagrams; and troubleshoot emergent system issues during construction and testing evolutions. Expectation is to operate in a support or lead capacity, function as a technical lead for specific job assignments, or as a lead engineer for a carrier piping system.

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

**Must Have**

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;

Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;

Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

**Nice to Have**

- Knowledge of shipboard piping systems and components

- Experience with new piping system design and piping system attributes

- Experience with troubleshooting and repair of shipboard piping systems
