Job Schedule: Full TimeBackus Hospital is proud to offer a Nurse Residency program to help newly licensed nurses successfully transition into clinical practice by providing support, resources and mentorship. We care about you and are committed to empower you to successfully navigate your professional nursing journey. We have partnered with the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™ to provide resources to help new nurses gain confidence and increase competence during this 12-month program. Your well-being as a new nurse is enhanced through hands-on training and processing clinical experiences. Nurse Residents will be hired directly to a specialty area where they will receive focused clinical education. The positions offered vary based on the needs of the hospital and may include Critical Care, Progressive Care Unit, Med Surg, Cardiology / Telemetry, Emergency, Operating Room, Oncology and Orthopedic units. In addition to clinical immersion on the unit, Nurse Residents meet in a classroom format to share experiences and receive additional education and training.
Who is enrolled in a nurse residency program?
• Every newly licensed RN (completion of NCLEX with active CT RN license) with less than one-year experience
• Program enrollment is based on hire date
Graduates of this 12-month program will:

We are currently hiring for 2024 residency cohorts and encourage nursing students to apply prior to graduation.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate of a school of nursing. Soon to be graduates are welcome to apply!
Experience: New RN Graduate Nurses or newly licensed RNs.
License and Certification:
• Active State of CT RN license. New graduates may start employment under Graduate Nurse license status (per the State of CT DPH guidelines) with pending license and must successfully complete first NCLEX testing and hold active license within 90 days from graduation date. Once active state of CT RN license is obtained newly-licensed nurse will be placed into Nurse Resident program cohort sessions.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire.
• Ability to obtain and maintain department specific certifications.
By completing the Nurse Residency Program, newly-licensed nurses are able to competently and safely manage a full patient assignment with confidence, and will be well-positioned to become future leaders in the nursing profession.
