RSM US LLP is seeking an experienced Senior Manager for their State and Local Tax (SALT) practice, focusing on Credits & Incentives (C&I). Responsibilities

  • Utilize skills and experience with state tax credits, incentives, WOTC, site and location analysis to help build a service delivery team and drive C&I services to firm clients
  • Drive growth and profitability of the C&I and SALT practice by generating new revenue on existing client portfolio, cross-selling, and bringing in new clients for the tax practice
  • Work as part of a national practice to facilitate knowledge sharing based on your specific areas of expertise and experience while utilizing C&I resources across the firm to leverage expertise in other states
  • Integrate with clients and the overall tax team to review state tax returns to identify C&I opportunities and provide C&I services
  • Work on multiple complex issues while communicating in a non-technical manner to facilitate communication between the client and the service team while managing the risk for both the client and the firm
  • Lead and manage the business relationship of complex engagements with a focus on high-value quality tax advice and seek to expand services to clients
  • Responsible for managing a team of SALT associates, seniors, and supervisors
  • Providing timely, high-quality client service that meets or exceeds client expectations with tax advice and consultation that enable clients to increase shareholder value
  • Serve as a Career Advisor and supervise, mentor, and develop staff members and provide appropriate and timely performance feedback to those supervised
  • Remain up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in tax law
  • Speak at both external and internal events to build the firm’s brand and your personal brand as experts in the field of credits and incentives
  • Some travel may be required

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field from an accredited college or university
  • CPA, JD, LLM, EA, CCIP or CEcD
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience providing income and franchise tax consulting services in a Public Accounting, Consulting, or Law firm
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, detail-oriented, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

RSM SALT Property Tax professionals assist companies in managing their property tax reporting obligations and related liabilities. Their level of service includes compliance, asset classification review and valuations, real and personal property tax consulting, property tax appeals assistance, bill review and planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent service to maintain and develop strong client relationships with existing and new multi-state property tax clients– approximately 60% of your time
    • Perform thorough reviews of property tax returns and valuations
    • Analyze new legislative developments to identify tax saving opportunities and tax planning
    • Assist and analyze property tax considerations related to business restructuring and/or due diligence engagements
    • Effectively communicate with clients and engagement team on work progress and expectations
  • Assist practice leadership to prepare presentations and proposals to new and existing clients – approximately 30% of your time
  • Serve as a mentor and coach to the engagement team by providing training, feedback and guidance – approximately 10% of your time
  • Ability to integrate with clients, as well as local and national RSM colleagues from various capabilities/service lines

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or closely related field from an accredited college or university
  • Requires one of the following: CPA, CMI, JD or LLM
  • Requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience providing property tax services in a public accounting, consulting or law firm
  • Possess thorough knowledge of a variety of property tax laws, regulations, policies and procedures, as well as tax planning, restructuring, due diligence, audit defense, reverse audits and state controversy work
  • Ability to work closely with clients to answer questions or to collect necessary information for tax service requirements
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to 20% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA, JD or CMI
  • Proficient in PTMS and Microsoft products
  • Organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize multiple assignments

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $97,200 - $183,700

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
