The Commissioning Lead at Microsoft's Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) organization is responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of new data center capacity. Responsibilities

  • Reports to the CO+I Regional Commissioning Director with reporting structure to a EOT Team Lead
  • Understand Safety, Datacenter Commissioning, Project Management, Telecommunications, and Mission Critical Operations
  • Create and/or maintain best practices to identify and incorporate quality and cost-effective solutions
  • Develop commissioning reports to communicate project status
  • Develop financial reports to communicate project status
  • Regularly review assigned project construction progress, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, commissioning progress, issue status and metrics
  • Communicate across various teams and build a cohesive team environment
  • Travel to projects to ensure consistent operations and efficiencies across the region
  • Develop, manage, and report on scope and schedule of the commissioning process for CO+I projects
  • Report on the Commissioning process to management on a regular basis
  • Evaluate project status and develop timely and cost-effective solutions for safe delivery within budget, quality and schedule
  • Drive solutions to impact successful delivery of projects under challenging conditions
  • Work independently in support of the CO+I Program
  • Coach and mentor project teams in successful data center commissioning project delivery strategy
  • Refine practices/policies and develop methods/techniques for driving solutions

Qualifications

Required

  • 12+ years relevant technical engineering experience or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience
  • OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience
  • OR Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, Technology, Computer Science or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience
  • 8+ years of experience in Data Center facility construction and/or commissioning
  • 8+ years of experience with electrical and mechanical test equipment
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements

Preferred

  • Understanding of UPS systems, switchgear, generators and critical mechanical systems
  • Construction Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC)
  • Ability to develop and write detailed Commissioning Scripts
  • Experience in issue identification and resolution management

Full Job Description

Microsoft's Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) organization is the engine that powers our cloud services. Our data center construction team is dedicated to delivering the highest quality data centers for our cloud services. As we continue to revolutionize the way construction projects are planned, managed, and executed, we are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented **Commissioning Lead - Americas - Execution Oversight Team** to join our diverse and inclusive team. This role will play a crucial part in ensuring the high standard and reliability of our product.

As part of the regional Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) Execution Oversight Team (EOT), the key responsibilities are to work cross functionally with other EOT members to provide oversight on the consistent implementation of the project service level agreement (SLA) and functional governance, perform project health analysis against the approved SLAs/scope/execution plan/cost/schedule, assist with the project setup, evaluate the site resource effectiveness, conduct spot audits, assist with onboarding and training of the site-based team. The team will be dedicated to this scope and will not be assigned to specific projects or other functional/regional activities. The project reviews and assessment will be as per the EOT roadmap and/or managed by exception should a critical priority be raised within the region. The team will be based in a hub location and will travel together to the site as per the roadmap and business critical priorities.

The CO+I Commissioning team is responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of new data center capacity for CO+I. Through development of leading program management and construction processes, this team is chartered with managing workflow across vertically and horizontally aligned project managers and virtual teams to successfully deliver multi-million dollar, multi-year data center construction programs.

As a Commissioning Lead on the Data Center Delivery Execution Oversight Team, you will be an experienced commissioning capacity delivery manager with well-rounded experience of delivering projects. Your focus will be Cx capacity delivery while upholding the company values of safety, quality, schedule, contractual obligations and cost in challenging project environments

**This role is located in one of these hub locations: Phoenix, AZ​.**

**Travel requirements: 50-75%.**

**Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must ​relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.**

Reliability Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
