The Senior Systems Administrator (Unix/Linux) at Expeditors International will work with the Systems Team to plan and execute the migration of enterprise legacy systems infrastructure. This role involves a technical leadership position in planning, development, implementation, maintenance, documentation, and support of a large, complex, distributed server environment. The position is on-site in the greater Seattle, WA area and requires extensive experience in RedHat / Solaris systems administration, programming languages such as Perl, Shell, Python, and automation frameworks like Ansible.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Systems Team to plan and execute migration of enterprise legacy systems infrastructure.
  • Perform a technical leadership role in planning, development, implementation, maintenance, documentation, and support of a large, complex, distributed server environment.
  • Develops and implements operational management process and procedures.
  • Provide day to day full life cycle support of Unix and Linux servers, including installation, build, hosting design and service deployment, administration, user support, performance monitoring and tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Provides application support for deployment/installation as required.
  • Works with Program Manager, Project Managers, Engineering staff, and vendors to manage projects, drive outcomes and lead teams.
  • Analyzes and resolves complex hardware and software problems issues.
  • Installs and maintains the operating system and related software products.
  • Uses alert monitoring tools and escalates unusual or unexpected findings.
  • Uses security management systems and facilitates in backups and restores of data and application code.
  • Provides reports to users and managers of systems status on an as requested basis.
  • Provides documentation of all solutions to problems and document all application guidelines and issues.
  • Creates and edits computer-based documentation and trouble ticket systems to document equipment configurations, track changes and problems, and compiles performance data.
  • Performs assistance, training and information sharing to users and other administrators.
  • Maintains leadership qualities and attitude in keeping with the standards of the Enterprise

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of RedHat / Solaris systems administration.
  • Extensive programming language experience (Perl, Shell, Python).
  • Experience with automation frameworks & extensive programming/scripting experience (Ansible preferred).

Preferred

  • Experience in developing and maintaining CI/CD processes using tools like SVN, Jenkins, Maven.
  • Experience in database administration including tuning databases for optimal performance.
  • Experience with cluster management software (VCS).
  • Practiced in designing and implementing business continuity/disaster recovery and high availability plans.
