The Workday Architecture Group performs research on Workday’s future architecture, including building out proof of concepts and early products. If you appreciate the elegance and complexity of a highly available, scalable, secure, open and modern distributed platform and can perform quick yet accurate implementations, then this role could be a good fit.About the RoleAs a member of this team you’ll work with innovative and experienced engineers to work on the projects that will help define the future architecture of the Workday platform. You will take on the challenge of proving out advanced designs and scaling it to meet growing business needs while minimizing operational cost.Participate in the design of Workday’s future architectureWrite code, develop tools, and perform other software engineering tasks necessary to prove out the architecture, in an iterative, agile environmentBe able to move fast, yet generate high quality output, knowing that iteration is an important aspect of our development processDocument design and code for maintainabilityContribute ideas for continually improving the team's productivity, job enjoyment, and code qualityCollaborate with architects, principal engineers and technical product managers to analyze functional requirements, devise architecture designs that provide real scalability, low latency, and high availabilityBe responsible for system performance and stability by proactively identifying and diagnosing issues and rapidly deploying code to address issuesBe an enthusiast of our technologies and products. Influence and collaborate across functional teams in coming together towards a common business goal and data architectureAbout YouBasic Qualifications5+ years of software engineering experience3+ years of experience using Java or another JVM-based language such as Scala or KotlinOther QualificationsBS or MS degree in Computer Science, Math, or related fieldProven track record of writing clean, maintainable, and efficient codeStrong problem-solving and interpersonal skillsExperience in database implementation and/or use.Experience using or building distributed systems with an understanding of scalability, lock free algorithms, high availability, CAP theorem, etc.Experience or coursework in compilers, model driven development, distributed systems, databases, and/or language design.Web technologies including: React.js, Node.js, RESTful api, JSON, GraphQL and REST-based servicesSQL and NOSQL databasesCI/CD: Github, Jenkins pipelinesSolid understanding of cloud services such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud etc.Experience in Agile development methodologies: eXtreme Programming, Crystal Methods, Scrum.Proven ability to balance multiple priorities and communicate across organizational boundariesGreat team playerWorkday Pay Transparency StatementThe annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
