The Laboratory Technician at O-AT-KA Milk Products Cooperative, Inc. is responsible for performing tests on production and finished product samples to ensure compliance with FDA, NYS regulations, and Upstate Farms Dairy standards. Responsibilities

  • Evaluate Product testing results and determine compliance to standards.
  • Inspect and verify sanitary condition of processing lines, including conducting ATP swabbing.
  • Validate vitamin additions and batching sheets for the processing departments.
  • Receive, test and determine compliance of all incoming raw dairy and cream trucks.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and equipment.
  • Communicate openly to other members of the Quality Control Team and plant personnel.
  • Conduct microbiological analyses, chemical analyses, and sensory testing as required.
  • Notify QC/QA supervisor/manager and plant/shift manager of problems with the quality of production.
  • Conduct bacteria/shelf life testing of fresh and stressed samples.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Promote and provide excellent customer service with all customers.
  • Promote a safe and harmonious work environment and adherence to company policy and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with S.Q.F. Certification.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance work on all lab pipettors.
  • Conduct environmental samples of the plant for microbiological testing.
  • Assist with equipment readings, record keeping and filing test results.
  • Assist in training of new and current employees.
  • CIP validation of all filler single use systems (including charts) and effective communication with plant personnel.
  • Conduct routine inspections, samplings and testing at onsite location as assigned.
  • Conduct automated titrator testing and calibration.
  • Investigate issues and products as requested by QA/QA Management.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in dairy/food sciences or equivalent
  • 0-2 years of experience
  • Must be able to work in various temperatures and weather conditions
  • Must be able to change shift hours on short notice to provide coverage
  • Obtain and maintain Licenses for NYS Raw Milk Receiver, Charm SLBL, Alkaline Phosphatese, Bacterial testing (DMC)
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision

3rd - Full-Time - 10-hour shift (paid meal period) on a rotating schedule of 8 days on, 6days off (schedule may vary during training).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Responsible for performing analytical testing on production samples and finished product samples to determine compliance with FDA, NYS regulations and Company standards.

+ Ability to engage in analytical thinking and investigations to determine root cause of quality nonconformance issues

+ Responsible for receiving trailers of bulk products and testing of raw and heat-treated dairy ingredients to determine compliance with FDA, NYS regulations and Company standards.

+ Must follow all SOP procedures and complete required documentation/checklists

+ Maintain area cleanliness, report leaks and/or out of spec product and participate in continuous improvement efforts

+ Follow all safety requirements to include housekeeping, lock out/tag out, PPE, fall protection, and facility safety efforts

+ Ability to work independently which may include interrupted meal periods - Company provides paid meal periods

+ Ability to stand/walk, and perform physical work such as heavy lifting, climbing (up to 12ft), bending, etc.

+ Operate in varied temperature ranges

+ Ability to communicate with co-workers, and management in a clear and respectful manner

+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

+ Attention to detail and coordinate various activities

+ Perform other duties as assigned

Pay:

$22-25.00
