As a Manufacturing Quality Engineer – Color at Apple, you will define product color appearance specifications and develop quality control methods for some of the world's most visible products. Responsibilities

  • Apply deep understanding of color science or quality control and manufacturing concepts to lead the development of specific color Quality Control Plans (QCP) appropriate to the program or commodity
  • Support color matching & development at vendor sites, visually & numerically determining acceptability of color matches & production lots
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes during product development to assess production risks
  • Develop and direct studies to implement improvements in measuring methods where appropriate
  • Drive corrective actions cross-functionally with internal and external team members
  • Assess supplier production control and quality programs, identify shortfalls to expectations, and work with suppliers to correct
  • Establish audit procedures appropriate to program and supplier to ensure adherence to Apple quality standards
  • Evaluate supplier readiness and alignment to quality plans at all development and qualification stages
  • Monitor supplier's performance through measurement of production line statistics, inspections, and audits
  • Evaluate and clearly communicate yields of key processes
  • Qualify and implement groundbreaking quality inspection tools; including visual and instrumental tools/processes
  • Present analysis to key decision makers to make commercial & design decisions
  • 15-25% international travel required

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years experience in quality concepts, supplier quality management, and manufacturing operations
  • MS or BS in Engineering or Color Science

Preferred

  • Experience with visual comparison and assessment of color and texture
  • Experience in developing quality plans or experience with color appearance, gloss and/or texture metrology
  • Proven understanding of problem solving tools including root cause analysis and statistical process control principles
  • Ability to plan & execute DOEs using statistical analysis, then present results & recommendations
  • Understanding of project management concepts
  • Direct PM experience
  • Experience with coatings, resin compounding, pigmentation, textiles, dyeing or color formulation
  • Experience working with international supply chain

This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $122,300 and $184,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
