The Courier at Guthrie is responsible for driving a prescribed route to pick up and deliver patient samples, mail, payroll, and other items between Guthrie and designated non-Guthrie entities. This role requires maintaining a positive professional manner, ensuring the verification and optimal transport of specimens, and adhering to strict timelines and safety standards. No previous experience is required, but experience in supply distribution and driving routes is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts in a professional and courteous manner with Guthrie Clinic Departments and all Guthrie entities to facilitate the efficient delivery/or pick up of necessary supplies, communications, and other items.
  • Ensures the verification of specimens picked up at various Guthrie entities and maintains optimum transport of specimens at correct temperatures to maintain sample integrity.
  • Maintains timeliness on specific assigned routes with associated timetables to ensure turnaround times and optimal specimen receipt and reporting are met.
  • Delivers mail and materials to Regional Offices and other Guthrie entities as designated by the supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Delivers pharmaceutical specimens (including patient and employee medication) to all Regional Offices, Guthrie entities to include documentation of receipt of pharmaceuticals and appropriate storage temperatures.
  • Picks up and delivers payroll, accounts payable checks, cash, and other finance required items to regional offices with appropriate documentation of pick up and delivery. Required to deposit money bags at bank.
  • Daily delivers and collects x-rays as designated by Radiology departments.
  • Transports medical gases in DOT approved containers following DOT requirements.
  • Enforces the laboratory specimen rejection/acceptance policy by confirming patient identification on certain specimens and requisitions.
  • Loads and unloads vehicle
  • Portrays high standard of professionalism as a visible representative of the Guthrie.
  • Maintains vehicles for basic maintenance and operates in a non-destructive and careful manner.
  • Reports any vehicle potential malfunctions immediately and any accident or vehicle issues immediately and gets appropriate reports filled out

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current, valid driver's license
  • No prior offenses for DWI, Hit and Run Conviction, or other infractions having led to any revocation of driving privileges
  • Ability to read instructions and communicate knowledgeably with customers
  • Friendly with good interpersonal skills
  • Professional appearance
  • Required to have documented HazMat training annually
  • Required to maintain AAA membership

Preferred

  • Experience in supply distribution and driving routes

Full Job Description

Position Summary: With use of a hospital vehicle drives a prescribed route while picking up and delivering patient samples, mail, payroll and other finance designated items, pharmaceuticals, supplies and other items between Guthrie and designated non‐Guthrie entities while maintaining a positive professional and helpful manner.

Education, License & Cert: High school diploma or GED required.

Experience: No previous experience required, however, applicants with experience in supply distribution and driving routes will be preferred. Other Qualifications:

1. Current, valid driver's license.

2. No prior offenses for DWI, Hit and Run Conviction, or other infractions having led to any revocation of driving privileges in addition to any other criminal convictions.

3. Required to be able to read instructions and communicate knowledgeably with customers.

4. Friendly with good interpersonal skills.

5. Professional appearance.

6. Required to have documented HazMat training annually.

7. Required to maintain AAA membership.

Essential Functions:

1. Interacts in a professional and courteous manner with Guthrie Clinic Departments and all Guthrie entities, including associated non‐Guthrie providers to facilitate the efficient delivery/ or pick up of all necessary supplies, communications and other items to Regional Offices, Guthrie entities and associated providers (i.e. Administration, Laboratory, Purchasing, Mailroom, Storeroom, Pharmacy, Radiology, Finance etc.).

2. Responsible for ensuring the verification of specimens picked up at various Guthrie entities, then ensuring optimum transport of specimens at correct temperatures to maintain sample integrity.

3. Maintains timeliness on specific assigned routes with associated timetables at each site to ensure turnaround times and optimal specimen receipt and reporting are met.

4. Delivers mail and materials to Regional Offices and other Guthrie entities as designated by the supervisor on a daily basis.

5. Delivers pharmaceutical specimens (including patient and employee medication) to all Regional Offices, Guthrie entities to include documentation of receipt of pharmaceuticals and appropriate storage temperatures. Receipt vouchers returned to storeroom for documentation.

6. Picks up and delivers, payroll, accounts payable checks, cash and other finance required items to regional offices with appropriate documentation of pick up and delivery. Required to deposit money bags at bank.

7. Daily delivers and collects x‐rays as designated by Radiology departments.

8. Transports medical gases in DOT approved containers following DOT requirements.

9. Enforces the laboratory specimen rejection / acceptance policy by confirming patient identification on certain specimens and requisitions.

12. Must be able to perform with minimal supervision while performing duties, as well as take directions and criticism in a positive light.

13. Maintains vehicles for basic maintenance (ie: all necessary fluids, fuel, normal lubricants at peak operating levels as necessary). Lights, as well as air pressure on tires, should be checked periodically. Maintains vehicle in top operational condition and appearance. Operates in a non‐destructive and careful manner through utilization of primary roadways, slowing for rough roadways, railroad crossings, construction sites, etc. Adheres to posted speed limits.

14. Reports any vehicle potential mal functions immediately

15. Reports any accident or vehicle issues immediately and gets appropriate reports filled out

16. Reports to Supervisor any medication used or illnesses requiring medications which could cause drowsiness, or any other reason for potential impairment.

The pay for this position ranges from $16.00-$22.37 per hour.
