As a Security and Fire Systems Engineer at Johnson Controls International, you will be responsible for the design, configuration, and operation of complete building electronic systems including security and other low voltage control sub-systems. This role involves developing complex software programs, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure proper operations, and providing detailed information and submittals to communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, and subcontractors. You will work under general direction and be accountable for the quality, timeliness, and efficiency of designs.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and configures technically complex building electronic security systems as defined by the contract documents.
  • Creates flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
  • Develops and tests software programs necessary to operate the system per the intent of the project requirements.
  • Coordinates and creates of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
  • Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned projects.
  • Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required.
  • Assists in validation of complete system functionality and solves problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
  • Provides field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software.
  • Informs management and JCI contractor or customer of job progress and issues.
  • Assists in performing site-specific training for owner / operator on system functionality.
  • Participates in release meeting with project field team.
  • Performs value engineering to provide cost effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • May provide work direction to Systems Design Assistants.
  • Adheres to safety standards and has a high degree of regard for employee and subcontractor safety.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Drafting (AutoCAD) preferred, Or equivalent field experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in design of Fire and Security systems.
  • Experienced with NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm Code) and ability to acquire appropriate licenses required by national, state and local codes.
  • Experience in Fire Alarm, Security, Nurse Call, CCTV and/or Construction Industry, with knowledge of multiple electronic building systems.
  • Advanced understanding of mechanical systems and their interface to fire alarm systems.
  • Proven track record in drafting/CAD, digital literacy estimating/pricing, and project management.
  • Fundamental understanding of Microsoft Office Suite including, Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, Adobe.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding architectural and electrical diagrams.
  • Effective written and oral communications.

Your Impact as a Fire Design Engineer

As a pivotal member of our team, you will take the reins on designing, configuring, and operating cutting-edge building electronic systems, with a particular focus on fire system design along with security system design. Your role is not just about compliance; it's about ensuring safety and efficiency in the environments we help create. Collaborating with field teams, you will be responsible for the quality and timeliness of designs, developing complex software solutions, and troubleshooting to guarantee top-notch operation. How You Will Make It Happen

  • Design and configure advanced electronic fire safety systems and security security systems that align with our contractual commitments, generating essential documentation such as flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bills of materials, network layouts, and electrical schematics.

  • Develop and rigorously test software programs to ensure systems operate flawlessly and meet project objectives.

  • Prepare detailed drawings and timelines for project submittals and installations, using your organizational skills to select and track material orders, ensuring timely delivery.

  • Assist in loading and commissioning all system and network-level controllers, working alongside subcontractors to validate comprehensive system functionality.

  • Provide essential updates to the project team regarding field changes for as-built documentation and software adjustments.

  • Engage in site-specific training sessions for owners/operators, ensuring they understand system operations thoroughly.

  • Actively participate in project release meetings and value engineering exercises to drive cost effectiveness while keeping customer satisfaction front and center.

  • Mentor junior team members and ensure adherence to safety standards, prioritizing the well-being of everyone involved.

What We Look For

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience with electronic fire system design.

  • Proficient in NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm Code) with a capacity to obtain necessary licenses as per local, state, and national codes.

  • A background in Fire Alarm, Security, Nurse Call, CCTV, and/or Construction Industries, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of various electronic building systems.

  • Adept in mechanical systems and their interactions with fire alarm systems.

  • Proven drafting/CAD skills, project management experience, and digital literacy; familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, Adobe).

  • Exceptional ability to read and interpret architectural and electrical diagrams.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, essential for effective collaboration.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or Drafting (AutoCAD) preferred, or equivalent practical experience.

  • At least 5 years of experience with security system design.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $90,700.00 USD - $124,800.00 USD (Salary to be determined by qualifications, experience, and market alignment).
