Hartford HealthCare is seeking a part-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for its Urology department. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the attending physician to provide skilled health care to patients in a variety of clinical settings.
  • Manage a variety of general urology patients in collaboration with attending physician(s), clinical nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Assess, develop appropriate plans, and provide safe/ethical treatment of all patients.
  • Use all appropriate and applicable standards of care, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Provide direct patient care in office consultations, including assessment, work-ups, triage, emergency work-ins, and other patient care activities.
  • Obtain and document health history, perform and document physical exam, and order and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Provide counseling to patients regarding diagnosis and expected course of treatment.
  • Collaborate with physician(s) to provide appropriate direct care interventions within scope of practice.
  • Collect, organize, record, and discuss data as appropriate and use sound clinical judgment based in best practice standards and evidenced based medicine.
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals according to patient needs and conduct appropriate patient follow-up & outreach.
  • Ensure timely retrieval of laboratory and ancillary studies and diagnostic consultation reports.
  • Consult with appropriate internal and external staff to make appropriate referrals for acute, chronic and preventive care.

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Master’s program preferred.
  • Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant / Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Connecticut.
  • Certification or eligible to be certified as a Physician Assistant or National Board Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse through AACN or ANCC.
  • 2 years of Urology experience preferred.

Advanced Practitioner Role Scope

· In collaboration with the attending physician, the role of the APRN is to provide skilled health care to patients in a variety of clinical settings. The APRN will be expected to manage a variety of general urology patients in collaboration with attending physician(s), clinical nurses, and other members of the healthcare team. Scope of responsibility of the APRN includes, but is not limited to, assessment, development of appropriate plan, and safe/ethical treatment of all patients. The consistent use of all appropriate and applicable standards of care, protocols, and guidelines is expected.

· Provides direct patient care in office consultations, including assessment, work-ups, triage, emergency work-ins, and other patient care activities
