Full Job Description

Thank you for stopping by to take a peek at the PM role I posted here on LinkedIN, I appreciate it. If you have read my JD's before, welcome back. If this is your first time reading my JD's, welcome to the party.

Just a quick note...I am an actual real live breathing person writing this. So, no bots, no AI... The reason I mention this is that I write my JD's based on a combo of EQ and IQ. In addition, I like to add some humor to these things. So, if you see something that makes you chuckle...that was the intent. Life is too short to take ones self too seriously.

So, lets start with EQ...the 'social fit' for a role like this one. Here are some of the things we are seeking for this role from a social fit standpoint:

  • I have done quite a bit of work with this client, so I know them quite well. This is one of those environments with limited micro-management. A lot of people love hearing this....'ahaa...no micro management...fantastic'...but, this also means there is a flip side to that coin. This means that you don't need to be micro managed.
  • You might have seen a comment like this in other posts I have made...but I will repeat it here. This is an environment with limited ego's, limited drama. So, if you believe that you are the only one with brilliant ideas and believe the entire world revolves around you, please run for Congress...I hear they are hiring.

Here is what we are seeking.

You will be a primary project manager to help this firm's client's manage software implementations. So, we are seeking a PM that has worked with external customers with regards to product or software implementations. As with many PM roles....this one blends some of those 'classic' BA skills as well. So, if you blend that fun stuff like requirements gathering, documentation, process flow diagramming and UAT scripting with your PM skills, that would be spot on with what we are seeking. As you might guess, those PM skills such as budget tracking, resource allocation, deliverable tracking and so on will be fundamental skills for success in this role.

As far as expectations go, in the first 90 days for this role, we are seeking to have you understand how this client works through implementations (especially internal processes) and learning about how this client's software works & it's capabilities. So, you won't be thrown to the wolves on day one...there is a learning curve you will go through in those first 60-90 days.

If you are anything like me, your eyes start to get blurry (I'm old, so they get blurry a little sooner than most) when it comes to a zillion bullet points, so I will be relatively brief with regards to the responsibilities and requirements for this role.

Here are some of those key responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary interface for internal and external stakeholders...this requires that delicate task of planning & execution of those steps to a successful project (delicate...sometimes how people focus - intensely - on their golf game).
  • Define and monitor deliverables, their timelines and overall project objectives.
  • Strategize & plan resource allocation.
  • Establish project & communication structures. As many PM's know, the lynch pin of project success is communication to those key stakeholders as opposed to - they day before a deliverable is due - saying 'whoops...did I do that' (humor from Steve Urkel from Family Matters...I told you I was old).
  • Lead and organize regular project meetings with external customers.

Here are what we are seeking:

  • At least 3 years of PM experience. Some of this experience should be external customer facing if possible.
  • That PM experience will need to be IT in focus. If you have ERP or MES implementation experience, that would be fantastic to see.
  • Methodical, purpose-driven and outcome-oriented PM experience.
  • Effective pizza delivery experience (attempt at humor).
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% (travel will be in the Midwest, primarily).
