The Lead Phlebotomist at MLK Community Healthcare is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the daily activities of the phlebotomists in the clinical laboratory.   • Assists in training and orientation of new staff.
  • Periodically reviews job description, procedure manual, and techniques for conformity.
  • Responsible for data entry and appropriate proficiency using the LIS computer systems.
  • Makes monthly schedule for the Phlebotomy to ensure proper coverage.
  • Oversees the phlebotomists throughout the shift to ensure all samples are collected correctly.
  • Enters schedule into the computer and makes all changes accordingly.
  • Assists in interviewing and in the decision of selecting new phlebotomists.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years clinical Laboratory experience; phlebotomy certificate
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers from the American Heart Association
  • Must complete annual Workplace Violence Prevention Program/Certificate, per hospital policy

Preferred

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

POSITION SUMMARY

The Phlebotomy Lead, under the supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Manager, plans, coordinates and directs the daily activities of the phlebotomist in the clinical laboratory. He/she promotes quality patient care and act as ambassador for the laboratory. He/she oversee that safety precautions and protective attire are used at all times according to hospital laboratory policies and procedures. He/she must me familiar with performance and interpretation of laboratory procedures. Responsible for creation and periodic review of Section procedure manual written in accordance with the State/CLIA standards and ensure that Corporate and Laboratory Integrity is in compliance with OIG guidelines.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A. Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

B. Qualifications/Experience

  • 3 years clinical Laboratory experience; phlebotomy certificate
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers from the American Heart Association.
  • Must complete annual Workplace Violence Prevention Program/Certificate, per hospital policy, during initial training/orientation but not to exceed 30 days from hire/transfer.

C. Special Skills/Knowledge

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Proficient with computer.
