Responsibilities

  • Triggers projects utilizing the most feasible, practical, and economical means.
  • Performs engineering work and applied research, development, and design of new projects.
  • Specializes in planning and/or engineering.
  • Analyzes complex local and wide area network systems and/or customer network environment.
  • Handles moderately complex engineering assignments and configures systems to user environments.
  • Resolves difficult interoperability problems across all platforms including e-mail, file transfer, multimedia, teleconferencing, and more.
  • Acts as a technical project leader or provides work leadership for lower-level employee.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and relevant experience
  • 6 - 8 years of related experience
  • Strong focus on scripting and tools such as Ansible, Python, Perl, PowerShell etc.
  • MEF Certified or MEF Aware
  • Excellent documentation/technical writing skills
  • Strong troubleshooting skills

**The Role**

Interacts with Architecture (IP and Security), Planning, Operations, Lab, Systems (automation, alarming) to implement equipment and designs necessary to evolve Metro Ethernet Network(s).

**Location**

This role is designated as a fully remote position within the United States.

**The Main Responsibilities**

+ Metro Ethernet Engineering - Lead Network Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Interacts with Architecture (IP, and Security), Planning, Operations, Lab, Systems (automation, alarming) to implement equipment and designs necessary to evolve Metro Ethernet Network(s).

+ Ability to research, write requirements to test hardware and software to ensure interoperability and validation of features, functions, and behavior.

+ Applies advanced engineering and network principles, theories, concepts, and technologies to solve complex problems and issues

+ Interacts and drives vendor requirements, resolution of bug fixes, code upgrades, and vendor development as necessary

+ Resolves difficult production/interoperability problems by working with cross-functional teams and applying advanced engineering and network principles, theories, and concepts

+ Self-motivated with problem-solving capabilities, sense of urgency, and accountability

**What We Look For in a Candidate**

**Required Qualifications:**

+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and relevant experience

+ 6 - 8 years of related experience

+ Expertise in the certification of equipment, MOPs/network configurations.

+ Layer 2 - Expertise of ethernet switching equipment and switching architectures used on Lumen's Metro Network(s). 

+ Expert-level troubleshooting knowledge with multiple vendor routing and forwarding architectures to resolve possible production issues or design behavior issues.

+ Solid experience with QoS traffic classification, remarking and per class queuing. Create QoS configurations to meet Product specifications and to resolve production issues. 

+ Coding/Scripting fluency in java, groovy script, perl, phthon.

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

**Location Based Pay Ranges**

**$80510 - $107340** in these states: AR, ID, KY, LA, ME, MS, NE, SC, and SD.

**$84740 - $112980** in these states: AZ, AL, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, MO, MT, NM, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY.

**$88980 - $118630** in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, OR, and RI.

**$93210 - $124280** in these states: AK, CA, CT, DE, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.

As with the pay range variety that's based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.
