Qualifications

Required

  • NYS Licensure - RN (LPN does not meet Teacher certification requirements)
  • NYS Teacher's certification - CTE Nurses Assisting (or ability & willingness to obtain)
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing or Education preferred
  • Certified CPR Instructor from an accredited vendor (Red Cross or American Heart Association)
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience, including 2 years in geriatric care

Preferred

  • Prior teaching experience, particularly at the high school level

The Nursing Assistant Instructor will provide high-quality instruction and mentorship to high school students enrolled in the Nursing Assistant program. This position requires a passionate educator dedicated to preparing students for careers in healthcare, particularly as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA). The instructor will design and implement curriculum, manage classroom & clinical environments, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Curriculum Development and Instruction:

+ Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Nursing Assistant curriculum in accordance with New York State Education Department (NYSED) standards.

+ Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in classroom, lab, and clinical settings.

+ Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that cater to diverse learning styles and promote critical thinking and practical skills.

+ Student Supervision and Support:

+ Assess student learning & skills acquisition and provide documentation in our student management system.

+ Monitor, evaluate & report student progress, offering constructive feedback and additional support as needed.

+ Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to students to foster academic and professional growth.

+ Facilitate student learning in clinical environments, ensuring adherence to safety and ethical standards.

+ Clinical Coordination:

+ Collaboratively supervise clinical rotations with other program staff.

+ Maintain strong relationships with clinical partners, ensuring placements meet educational and regulatory standards.

+ Ensure students meet clinical competencies and state certification requirements.

+ Maintain student performance-based competency records to meet NYSED / NYSDOH requirements for licensure.

+ Compliance and Documentation:

+ Ensure program compliance with NYSED, New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), and other relevant regulatory bodies.

+ Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and clinical hours.

+ Prepare and submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner.

+ Community Engagement:

+ Promote the Nursing Assistant program within the school and community.

+ Engage with local healthcare providers, professional organizations, and community groups to enhance program visibility and opportunities for students.

+ Participate in school-wide events, initiatives, and committees to support the overall mission of CiTi BOCES & CTE.

+ Attend & participate in CTE Advisory.

+ Participate in NYSED CTE Program reapproval & all its components.
