The Automation Technician I at Roseburg Forest Products is responsible for performing detailed control system design and software development for moderately complex engineering assignments. Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance and perform all duties in accordance with all safety, health and environmental rules and regulations
  • Develop and implement results oriented, value-added engineering solutions that achieve predetermined project goals and customer needs and/or requirements
  • Develop project documentation using corporate engineering standards, specifications, prints, and schematics
  • Develop detailed design of automation and process control systems that integrate PCs, PLCs, variable speed drives, motion control, and related process control systems
  • Work closely with corporate engineering controls team and manufacturing IT team on implementing the latest standards on automation and data reporting systems
  • Develop, configure and debug control system programming including PLC’s, OT networks, HMI and/or specialty component software
  • Develop standard engineering and project management practices consistently throughout project and work assignments
  • Develop technical skills and knowledge by attending seminars, webinars and other relevant related events
  • Lead and Develop new technology with corporate engineering, consulting engineers, and equipment vendors
  • Lead plant electricians on control systems, instrumentation and other related systems
  • Supervise installation quality
  • Perform other duties as necessary

  • Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented with high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work in a highly functional team environment
  • Working knowledge of industry technological developments and best practices
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks

Preferred

  • Oregon Journey Level Electrician (or ability to obtain) and/or Associates degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science)
  • Experience in PLC programming with any of the following PLC’s; Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi
  • Prior experience in wood products facilities
  • Prior manufacturing experience in 24/7 operations

Purpose

Perform detailed control system design and software development for moderately complex engineering assignments, which are stand-alone, or components of a larger project.
