Aurora Innovation is seeking a Staff Hardware Test Engineer to join their Electrical Validation Team (EVT team), focusing on the electrical validation of PCBA designs and integration into kits. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement test methodology for verifying and validating hardware operation of complex systems.
  • Work directly with Aurora’s HW and SW Embedded design engineering teams to create validation test plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Plan, evaluate, and purchase required test equipment for validation work in the lab.
  • Perform component, board, and system level electrical, functional and characterization measurements.
  • Deploy automated scripts/software to test systems, analyze data, and create test reports.
  • Investigate failure root cause and help drive product improvements.
  • Support hardware design team with bring-up, experiments/evaluations, and measurements.
  • Support and train junior team members with troubleshooting, measurements, and testing.
  • Presenting and documenting the test reports and test plans, review the schematic and HW architecture.
  • Directing junior-level and assisting senior-level engineers on various projects.

Qualifications

Required

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in testing, analyzing, or designing electrical systems.
  • Experience with testing and characterizing communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, and MDIO.
  • Proficiency in using lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, electronic loads, VNA, TDR, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Strong knowledge of Electrical Engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience working in a Linux environment.
  • Ability to set up test stations with network configurations.
  • Extensive experience in hardware troubleshooting and FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis).
  • Knowledge of shell scripting and Python.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience on Lidar HW design and/or testing
  • Experience on ISO16750-2 testing
  • Proven experience in the product life cycle development process from concept to production.
  • Project management of complex systems
  • Familiar with EE design tools, such as schematic capture and layout.

We’re searching for a Staff Hardware Test Engineer. The Electrical Validation Team (EVT team), a key part of the Product Integrity (PI) group, is responsible for the electrical validation of PCBA designs and validation of integration into our kit. Our team's primary duties include participating in design reviews, developing comprehensive test plans, executing tests, and performing in-depth root-cause analysis. In addition, we collaborate closely with the Reliability, New Product Introduction (NPI), and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues. The EVT team also plays a critical role in addressing and root-causing field issues.Given the nature of our work, team members possess a strong electrical engineering background, engage in hands-on engineering activities within the lab, and are well-versed in operating multidisciplinary lab equipment. The team is also responsible for conducting test readiness reviews, contributing to design reviews, and working closely with cross-functional teams.Collaboration and teamwork are essential for uniting various stakeholders and guiding implementation decisions across different disciplines. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
