  • Provide training for new and existing employees on job specific skills and standard procedures.
  • Possess general knowledge in the set-up, start-up, and operation of department tooling and equipment.
  • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with employees.
  • Perform timely individual performance reviews and development plans.
  • Communicate effectively with Supervisors and other members of the management team.
  • Provide recommendations that improve plant operations.
  • Establish appropriate cost controls over consumable supplies, scrap production, labor, and other expense items.
  • Possess knowledge required to open and start-up the factory and to shut down and close the factory.
  • Assign employees to specific jobs and provide instructions and training.
  • Follow-up to ensure work is performed correctly and efficiently.

Qualifications

Required

  • Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of experience in directing a workforce engaged in manufacturing activities.
  • Past experience with scheduling work centers is highly valued.
  • Associate's degree in a specialized or technical field.
  • Above average communication skills.
  • Highly motivated in the areas of organization, accuracy, attention to detail, initiative, and problem solving.
  • Comfortable in a factory environment and active in daily activities on the factory floor.

Full Job Description

PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR (2nd shift)


SUMMARY: Supervise and direct employees engaged in metal stamping, assembly, balancing, welding, quality auditing, equipment operation, material handling, setting up tooling and equipment and group lead activities. Ensure a safe workplace and promote safe work practices throughout the factory. Establish high standards of quality and promote the consistent application of corporate quality standards and procedures. Develop and maintain systems to ensure on-time completion of customer orders.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Establish high standards of safety through regular training, personal actions and knowledge of company safety practices and procedures.

2. Promote department organization and cleanliness.

3. Insure the proper operation and location of safety devices, fire extinguishers, safety supplies and safety postings.

4. Oversee the administration of first aid, complete near miss and injury reports and participate in accident investigations.

5. Conduct regular department safety meetings.

6. Establish high standards of quality through regular training, personal actions and knowledge of company quality systems and procedures.

7. Monitor quality practices to insure employees are following quality procedures.

8. Initiate quality documents such as deviation requests and material rejection forms.

9. Participate in safety and quality audits.

10. Communicate equipment and tooling problems to the appropriate service department personnel. Utilize EAM software to document equipment and tooling issues.

11. Utilize timekeeping software to verify employee hours and appropriate labor codes.

12. Create production schedules and production plans that satisfy customer requirements for on time delivery. Take corrective action and communicate to the appropriate people when schedule plans are not achieved and a customer delivery will be negatively affected.

13. Coordinate the availability of tooling and equipment to support the production plan.

14. Provide training as required for new and existing employees on job specific skills, standard procedures and work instructions at the guidance of the corporate training manager. Knowledge of Interact software to access corporate controlled documents is required.

15. Possess general knowledge in the set-up, start-up and operation of department tooling and equipment.

16. Establish and maintain a positive relationship with employees. Promote programs and practices that lead to harmony and positive morale while at the same time establish high standards of performance and productivity.

17. Perform timely individual performance reviews that provide accurate assessments of employee strengths and weaknesses with development plans that mitigate weaknesses and leverage strengths.

18. Communicate effectively with Supervisors and other members of the management team. Assure continuity of department goals by effectively communicating planning and follow up information with other department supervisors.

19. Provide recommendations that improve plant operations.

20. Establish appropriate cost controls over consumable supplies, scrap production, labor and other expense items.

21. Possess knowledge required to open and start-up the factory and to shut down and close the factory.

22. Attain expert knowledge regarding labor policies, procedures, work rules, practices and contracts.

23. Assign employees to specific jobs. Provide employees with instructions and make available training to complete jobs in the proper manner. Follow-up as required to insure work is performed correctly and efficiently.


TRAVEL: Occasional overnight travel to customer locations, suppliers, industry seminars and training and other company sites is required. Depending on distance, travel could include traveling by air and a rental car.

CONFIDENTIALITY: This position has access to standard costing information, employee records, production processes and corporate profit information.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Over 1 year up to and including 3 years demonstration through work experience of successfully directing a work force engaged in manufacturing activities. Past experience with scheduling work centers is highly valued.

EDUCATION REQUIRED: Associate's degree in a specialized or technical field.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: The successful individual will possess above average communication skills and be highly motivated in the areas of organization, accuracy, attention to detail, initiative and problem solving. The successful individual will be comfortable in a factory environment and be active in the daily activities on the factory floor.
