Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement and evaluate student's care needs
  • Demonstrates skill nursing care in accordance with prescribed orders/IHP
  • Performs interventions, treatments and medications administration according to identified priorities as outlined in the IHP
  • Monitors and documents effectiveness of interventions, treatments and medications
  • Completes documentation per client expectations
  • Coordinates and facilitates services between the school, local health agencies and other community resources
  • Communicates with the school district personnel about student's plan of care/IHP
  • Notifies District School Nurse/Amergis Supervisor /Parent/Physician as outlined in the IHP regarding changes in condition of student
  • Collaborates with school/education personnel/other health agencies to design and meet student's health care needs
  • Evaluates and assures student safety
  • Adheres to Amergis and school district policies
  • Maintains accuracy in student health record
  • Supports professional practice by observing the standards of nursing practice, patient care, and federal laws
  • Participates in student care conferences/Individualized Education Program (IEP) at request of school district

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited registered, practical or vocational nursing program
  • Licensed as a Licensed Practical, Licensed Vocational or Registered Nurse in state(s) where practicing
  • One year of professional experience, preferred
  • Complies with accepted professional standard and practice
  • Willingness to participate in skill advancement
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program
  • Current CPR
  • PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communications skills
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

The School Nurse assumesresponsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing processand the delivery of student/client care and/or contracted services in a schoolsetting. The School Nurse may also be in a supervisory position within the contractedservices. The School Nurse provides services in accordance with Amergis Healthcare Staffing's philosophy, standards, policies and physician orders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Utilizes the nursing process toplan, implement and evaluate student's care needs

+ Demonstrates on each assignmentthe provision of skill nursing care in accordance with prescribed orders/IHP

+ Performs interventions,treatments and medications administration according to the identifiedpriorities as outlined in the IHP

+ Monitors and documentseffectiveness of interventions, treatments and medications

+ Completes documentation perclient expectations

+ Coordinates and facilitatesservices as requested between the school, local health agencies and othercommunity resources to meet the needs of the student

+ Communicates with the schooldistrict personnel about student's plan of care/IHP

+ Notifies District SchoolNurse/Amergis Supervisor /Parent/Physician as outlined in the IHP regarding thefollowing:

Changes in condition of student

Physician notification to obtainnecessary orders

Collaborates with school/educationpersonnel/other health agencies as requested, to design and meet student'shealth care needs

Maintains accuracy in student healthrecord

Supports professional practice byobserving the following:

Educational Codes and Federal Laws as described in the ADA and IDEA

+ At request of school districtparticipates in student care conferences/Individualized Education Program (IEP)

+ LPN/LVNs should direct questionsregarding orders and changes in condition to a Supervising RN (DN and/orClinical Supervisor)

+ Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

+ One year of professionalexperience, preferred
