The Special Procedure Tech Lead at Corewell Health is responsible for providing direct care pre, intra, and post for patients undergoing Heart and Vascular procedures. This role requires adequate training and knowledge in cardiac, vascular, neurologic, and EP procedures to serve as a clinical expert and leader within the department. Responsibilities include IV starts, patient preparation, administering and monitoring conscious sedation, monitoring hemodynamics, operating equipment, documenting procedures, recovering patients, groin management, and providing patient/family education.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patients undergoing routine invasive, interventional procedures.
  • Provide intra-procedural technical support and quality patient/family centered care.
  • Coordinate daily with the Charge Nurse in maintaining the flow of patients between labs and holding room.
  • Perform quality assurance checks and skills validations on technical equipment.
  • Coordinate the PM’s on equipment with the daily case load.
  • Responsible for diagnostic equipment inventory, daily verifications of PACS, Syngo Dynamics, and Ultrasound images downloading properly.
  • Coordinate the implementation and training for new equipment and procedures with physicians and staff.
  • Design equipment and procedural training competencies and assist with skills validations.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, patient, families, and all ancillary departments.
  • Work with the Unit leadership on the training of new Technologist (including RNs when necessary).
  • Assist Leadership with scheduling and managing “on-call” scheduling to maintain adequate staffing.
  • Attend intradepartmental STEMI and Quality meetings as defined by each site.
  • Help coordinate the Accreditations with the assistance of the Unit leadership.
  • Supply monitoring and management per individual site needs.
  • Review cases for accurate documentation and appropriate charges as needed per site.
  • IR Tech must be able to 1st assist physicians using sterile technique, and an expert in image post processing, cross modality imaging (CT, U/S), 3D imaging, vascular, and cerebral cases.
  • Cath Lab Tech must be an expert in IVUS, FFR, OCT, ICE, Impella, Cardiac, peripheral, and Carotid interventions.
  • EP Lab Techs must be experts in ICE, device Implants, 3D mapping, advanced EP procedures, and laser lead extractions.

Qualifications

Required

  • Completion of an accredited radiography program (JRCERT) for Interventional Radiology.
  • Graduate of Cardiovascular Technologist program, Associate degree in cardiovascular technology/basic science, Paramedic license, Exercise Physiologist, or equivalent training and/or education for Cath Lab/EP Lab.
  • More than 5 years of Interventional experience.
  • Expertise and ability to train others in clinical skills listed.
  • BLS certification and active RT status upon hire for IR.
  • Registered RCES/RCIS/RT certification and IABP certification for Cath Lab.
  • Registered RCIS/RCES/RT certification for EP Lab.
  • Basic computer skills, math skills, exceptional communication skills, and outstanding customer service skills.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Lead Special Procedure Tech may provide direct care pre, intra, and post for patients undergoing Heart and Vascular procedures. Must have adequate training and knowledge of cardiac, vascular, neurologic, and EP procedures to be a clinical expert and leader within the department. Must maintain and ensure the physician has required equipment to provide quality imaging duties may include: IV starts, prep patients, administer/monitor conscious sedation, monitor hemodynamics, operate equipment, document procedures, recover patients, groin management, provide patient/family education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Monitor patients undergoing routine invasive, interventional procedures. Provide intra-procedural technical support and quality patient/family centered care. Will coordinate daily with the Charge Nurse in maintaining the flow of patients between labs and holding room.
  • Perform quality assurance checks and skills validations on technical equipment. Coordinate the PM’s on equipment with the daily case load. Will be responsible for diagnostic equipment inventory, daily verifications of PACS, Syngo Dynamics, and Ultrasound images downloading properly.

  • Work with the Unit leadership on the training of new Technologist (including RNs when necessary).
  • Assist Leadership with scheduling and Manages “on-call” scheduling to maintain adequate staffing. Required to take On Call per department schedule.
  • Attend intradepartmental STEMI and Quality meetings as defined by each site. Help coordinate the Accreditations with the assistance of the Unit leadership.
  • Supply monitoring and management per individual site needs.
  • Review cases for accurate documentation and appropriate charges as needed per site.
  • IR Tech must be able to 1st assist physicians using sterile technique, and an expert and be able to precept others on image post processing, cross modality imaging (CT, U/S), 3D imaging, vascular, and cerebral cases if performed at the site.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Training:

  • Interventional Radiology requires completion of an accredited radiography program (JRCERT).
  • Cath Lab/EP Lab requires employee to be a graduate of Cardiovascular Technologist program, Associate degree in cardiovascular technology/basic science, Paramedic license, Exercise Physiologist, or equivalent training and/or education.

Work Experience:

  • Employee must have more than 5 years of Interventional experience.
  • Employee must be an expert and able to train others in the clinical skills listed within below grid per each individual department and/or site scope.
  • If the department is a combination of specialties employee must be able an expert in all areas that are performed.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

  • IR requires BLS certification and active RT status upon hire, and an RT-CV or VI registration.
  • Cath Lab requires BLS and ACLS upon hire, Registered RCES/RCIS/RT certification, and IABP certification
  • EP Lab requires BLS and ACLS upon hire. Registered RCIS/RCES/RT.

Other Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills, math skills, exceptional communication skills, and outstanding customer service skills.
  • Cath Lab must be on site within 30 min. IR Call response time may vary by facility.
