Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. Must be eligible for registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and register within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to communicate with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner.
  • Demonstration of emotional control and intelligence in managing work relationships.
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds.

Preferred

  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). CPhT through the PTCB is required within 18 months of hire.
  • Six months of hospital experience.

Cleveland Clinic's inpatient pharmacy areas support distributive and clinical pharmacy services provided by staff pharmacists, clinical pharmacy specialists and pharmacy technicians, supporting 60 nursing units, 80 operating rooms, 4 PACUs, and 10 cath labs, accounting for over 1,440 inpatient beds. As an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital link in moving medications throughout the facility to enhance patient care. **A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 6:30AM - 10:00PM.**

A caregiver who excels in this role will:
