The Bidlack laboratory at the ADA Forsyth Institute is seeking a Research Assistant to join the Mineralized Tissue Biology and Bioengineering group.   • Document and analyze samples following established protocols for imaging, microCT, sectioning.
  • Plan and execute scientific experiments, with support from senior staff.
  • Maintenance of the transgenic animal colonies.
  • Genotype mice and maintain up to date records and inventories.
  • Tissue collection and processing of samples.

Qualifications

Required

  • Relevant education in a scientific field such as biology or biomedical engineering.
  • 2+ years of research experience.
  • Previous experience working with rodent models, including handling, genotyping and breeding.
  • Knowledge of MS Office products.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort working on multiple projects at once while producing quality results.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to relocate to the Boston Area

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science or related field.
  • Analytical techniques such as gel electrophoresis.
  • Knowledge of imaging techniques, immunohistochemistry and histology.

Full Job Description

The Bidlack laboratory at the ADA Forsyth Institute is looking for an enthusiastic Research Assistant to join our team in the Mineralized Tissue Biology and Bioengineering group. Our research focus is in craniofacial research on the connection between dental and overall health, dental development, processes of mineralization during tooth formation and repair, and the use of teeth as biomarkers for health history and to predict health risks.

This position is embedded in an ongoing NIH-funded study that leverages team science to address mechanisms of caries resistance in Indigenous children and American Indian, Alaska Native and other Indigenous persons are encouraged to apply.

The primary responsibilities include laboratory management, coordination with study team members within ADA Forsyth and collaborating institutions in Boston and Manitoba, the coordination of analytical workflow, intake, documentation, and processing of samples, data acquisition and data processing. You will contribute to the development of current and new research projects and be responsible for handling of small lab animals, genotype, collect and process tissues, perform biochemical assays and experiments, maintain and organize records, and prepare reports.
