Spur Design is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer with 5-10 years of design experience to contribute to a variety of building projects. Responsibilities

  • Provide Electrical Engineering design and documentation on projects within Spur Design offices including site investigations, contract documentation, and construction administration.
  • Develop detailed Electrical Design drawings and specifications from the schematic stage to complete construction documents utilizing Revit MEP or other modeling software.
  • Perform Electrical Engineering tasks including production of contract documents, specifications, design narratives, calculations, equipment selections, and submission packaging.
  • Understand and apply codes, design guidelines, engineering judgment, company standards, and industry best practices related to personal growth, development, and providing outstanding service to Spur’s clients.
  • Manage to prioritize project work proactively and provide program management within a multi-disciplinary project team.
  • Take responsibility for time management of assigned jobs and keep an accurate daily record of the time spent on each assigned job.
  • Maintain and update office systems including Revit (BIM) libraries, filing systems, and project management tools.
  • Travel for site visits, professional collaborations, and satellite office visits.
  • Work with the Electrical Director and Electrical design team to contribute toward the improvement of Spur Design’s methods and processes.
  • Attend office meetings and report on a regular basis regarding the progress of individual projects.
  • Support requests for assistance related to marketing, project interviews, level of effort estimates, and project proposals.
  • Strive to ask questions, learn next steps, and for continued growth and knowledge in the field.
  • Be a good steward for Spur both inside and outside the office.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5 – 10 years of Design Experience in the construction industry or related field
  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university in the Engineering Sciences, Architectural Engineering, Construction Science, or related field, actual field experience with direct correlation, or training through a vo-tech program.
  • Non-EIT with at least 1 Exam-based Design Certification
  • Knowledge, understanding, and ability to navigate construction specifications and documents
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and drawings
  • Knowledge of electrical building systems and guidelines
  • Knowledge of the Owner-Architect Agreement, Owner-Contractor Agreement, and Architect-Consultant Agreements
  • Ability to balance project deadlines and be responsive to project changes
  • High level of organizational skills and ability to follow through
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a high attention to detail
  • Proficiency with various software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Bluebeam, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Work as part of an MEP design team to provide Electrical engineering and design support on a variety of building projects:
  • Can recognize and assess most Electrical building systems, types, and utilities.
  • Design electrical power service and distribution, branch circuits, indoor and outdoor lighting and lighting controls, fire alarm systems, telephone and data infrastructure wiring, audio/visual systems, and miscellaneous electrical and control systems to develop the production of construction documents.
  • Reads, understands, and interprets building codes including but not limited to NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, NFPA 72 Fire Alarm Code, and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, as well as construction drawings and specifications.
  • Works on multiple small to large sized projects. Applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks.
  • Determines appropriate power, lighting, grounding, communications, fire alarm systems, and other required systems in accordance with building codes, and design appropriate electrical building components.
  • Utilizes established methods and computer analysis programs to perform calculations to determine electrical loads, lighting levels, available fault currents, protective coordination, arc-flash levels, etc.
  • Recognize and assess all electrical building systems, types, and utilities.
  • Perform and/or review REVIT modelling designs.
  • Able to select and size all equipment.
  • Review design calculations and give feedback and direction to meet design scope.
  • Performs all versions of submittal reviews.
  • Answer RFIs and CA related questions.
  • Direct ASI documentation and design as needed.
  • Specification editing
  • Coordinate project information and designs with architects and other engineering disciplines.
  • Performs occasional field work or direct designers.
  • Performs project site investigations regularly.
  • Conducts interpretations of drawings, codes, and other similar materials.
  • Completes engineering duties on projects of various complexities as assigned by the senior engineering staff.
  • Collect data and gather information to support design decisions.
  • Occasional solitary client interaction
