  • Performs laboratory test procedures within established criteria including performing Quality controls as per NYS guidelines
  • Maintaining logs with accurate documentation
  • Assists physician with examination and treatment within scope of practice
  • Demonstrates awareness of patients' limitations and plans accordingly
  • Collects specimens such as blood and urine and records the results in the patient's medical record for the prescriber to review
  • Labels all specimens appropriately using two patient identifiers
  • Work with integrity, uphold NYPC's mission, values, and maintain confidentiality in all situations
  • Follow safety & security policies & procedures, immediately reporting suspicious activities and unsafe conditions
  • Participate in all mandatory job training and meetings
  • Comply with all New York Proton Center policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned

Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant must show an uncompromising commitment to providing the highest quality of patient care by being an integral part of the clinical team. The Medical Assistant performs administrative and clinical duties including, but not limited to, rooming patients, performing vitals and various tests. The Medical Assistant prepares the patient for the physician and will perform their duties to the full level in accordance with NYS guidelines as outlined below.

  • Knowledge of EMR, Word Processing software and other specialized software for healthcare industry

According to the NYS Department of Education, tasks that cannot be performed by medical assistants or unlicensed persons include
  • triage, plan and evaluate patient care
  • treat & diagnose patient in person, online or by phone,
  • interpret test results or advise patients about medical conditions
  • administering medications through any route,
  • administering contrast dyes or injections of any kind,
  • placing sutures,
  • taking x-rays or independently positioning patients for x-rays,
  • applying casts,
  • first assisting in surgical procedures

The salary range and/or hourly rate displayed is a determination of base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
