Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled, full time, in a bachelor's degree program at an accredited university/college focusing on Information Technology, Engineering, Telecommunications or other related disciplines
  • Class Standing - Rising Junior
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future)

Preferred

  • Basic telecommunications concepts.
  • Project management concepts and tools.
  • Network design, engineering, and drawing management tools.
  • Knowledge of GIS mapping programs

**About the IT Fiber Optic Network Specialist Internship**

The FirstEnergy Fiber Networks team is responsible for managing the design, construction, and maintenance of FirstEnergy's 10,000+ miles of private fiber network which provides mission critical support to the FirstEnergy transmission companies and local electric distribution companies in the operation of the FirstEnergy electrical network.

The Fiber Optic Network Specialist Intern position is a remote opportunity with occasional opportunities to travel to office locations for meetings and possible travel to job sites, substations, or other company locations. This position will work with management, engineering and field personnel within IT and other FirstEnergy departments and will work closely with a wide range of fiber contractors and sub-contractors on a daily basis for the installation of new FirstEnergy fibers, planned and unplanned maintenance events, and more.
