  • Experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.
Performs moderately complex application software testing and quality assurance measures in support of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), Information Technology Services Division. Designs, documents and executes quality assurance reviews, tests, and system reliability and availability services for Information Technology projects. Defines and conducts application software testing and advises manager on status (acceptance/rejection) of release based on results of testing performed (unit, integration, regression, automation, functional, stress and scale, smoke, and sanity) for a software release to be implemented into production.
Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Employees at this level may rely on direction from others to solve problems that are not standard and also assist other staff in performing work of greater complexity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Tests software releases to ensure smooth integration with agency's systems and conformance with functional requirements, system compliance, and technical specifications for the body of software being tested.
Assists in analyzing applications software and user requirements and establishing quality assurance measures and testing standards for software releases throughout development lifecycle.
Develops and maintains documentation of release test procedures and test cases; reviews Business Requirements Documents and System Requirements Specifications to ensure requirements are met and testable.
Assists in identifying opportunities to optimize and minimize number of test cases and time effort while maximizing test coverage; assists with functional decompositions of applications to develop test coverage matrices to optimize test resource usage.
Executes test plans and test scripts to validate application functionality and performance according to specifications and test plans, individually or as part of a team.
Conforms to proper testing protocols and standards while performing duties.
Analyzes formal test results to discover and report defects, bugs, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws; logs defects uncovered; prepares progress reports, recommendations, or alternatives to address existing/potential trouble areas.
Investigates potential defects and discusses with developers; makes recommendations to software developers based upon findings of application software testing; isolates root cause of defects and may drive resolution of important defects.
Communicates status and testing metrics on release testing to management.
Keeps abreast of new developments and technologies related to software release testing and Quality Assurance.
May travel up to 5% of the time. Travels by car (may include flying). May include overnight travel. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed.
Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Knowledge of the limitations and capabilities of computer systems and information technology equipment. Knowledge of techniques used in the design of non-automated systems and applicable programming languages. Knowledge of computer hardware and software, computer operating systems, writing program code, and automated mapping.
Skill in:
Skill in solving problems, scheduling, testing, installing and implementing programs, and troubleshooting computer systems. Skilled in performance tuning and use of hardware and software.
Ability to:
Ability to analyze systems and procedures, write and revise standards and procedures, and communicate effectively. Ability to design systems processes and logic and exercise sound judgement and decision making.
