Operations Manager


Role Summary:

Starwest Botanicals is an industry leader within the organic herb, botanical, spice, and tea industry. Located in Sacramento, California, Starwest has grown to become a global player in wholesale, e-commerce, and manufacturing. With nearly 50 years of experience, the company is well positioned in a $100+ billion dollar industry.


The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the conversion of raw materials to finished product. This role must balance efficiency, quality, customer service, and safety on a daily basis in our manufacturing and distribution facilities. The ability to develop a highly skilled, self-directed team of hourly employees is crucial to the success of our organization. This position is located in Sacramento, California.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the production and shipment of finished product
  • Promote and maintain a safe workplace.
  • Hire and train a highly efficient team of hourly employees emphasizing cross functional teamwork, a positive work environment, and high performance.
  • Manage short and long-term departmental goals (KPIs), objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Work within the company’s key operating systems such as ERP and WMS.
  • Drive continuous improvement through process reviews and employee engagement.
  • Ensure accurate and timely production of customer orders including maintaining customer specifications, service levels and expectations.
  • Work cross functionally to ensure any potential stock outs are proactively addressed and tracked.
  • Work to develop and implement CAPEX projects.
  • Participate in the S&OP process.
  • Work cross-functionally to stay within federal, state, local, auditing body, and company standards to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.


Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in food manufacturing is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in operations, engineering, business, supply chain management, or a related field is required.
  • Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office, database management, spreadsheet creation, email, and internet.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to food manufacturing, warehousing, and GMPs.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a team of hourly employees ranging from 50 - 100.
  • Provides constructive and timely feedback to improve performance to employees.


Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of working on the production floor.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.


Compensation:

  • Salary range = $90,000 - $100,000 annually.
  • Position qualifies for full-time benefits: medical, dental, vision, 401k.


Travel Required:

  • Travel between company facilities within the Sacramento, CA area is required.


Work Location:

  • This position requires the candidate to be on-site in Sacramento, CA daily.
  • Work from home or remote work is not available for this position.
