The OR Nurse functions as Circulator/Scrub Nurse in the Operating Room. Organizes and administers individualized, professional patient care to patients within the Operating Room. Provides nursing care in accordance with the objectives, policies, procedures and protocols of the hospital and AORN, ASPAN and SGNA standards. Participates in patient teaching; incorporates the needs and behavior of the patient’s specific age/cultural groups in planning and providing care. Participates in quality improvement activities.
Periop 101 Course Description:
The Perioperative 101 Course is a 6-8 month blended learning program for the novice nurse entering the Perioperative environment. It combines the AORN Core Curriculum evidence-based module study course with classroom didactics, OR clinical skills, and simulation labs. It incorporates OR observation and hands-on participation in all modalities of perioperative nursing skills. The program will enhance the nurse’s educational knowledge leading to the ability to practice independently at a foundation level in a perioperative position.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this course, the nurse will be able to:
1. Practice independently at a foundation level in a perioperative position.
2. Advance as a professional perioperative nurse.
3. Improve patient outcomes through evidence-based practice.
4. Identify workplace safety, practice guideline, and standards to facilitate practice quality.
Qualifications
• Current CT RN License
• ASN applicants with previous OR nursing experienced are invited to apply.
• Recent BSN graduates will be enrolled in a Periop 101 orientation if hired.
• Previous OR nursing experience preferred
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Independent problem solving skills
• Excellent communications skills
• CNOR a plus
