The OR/Sterile Processing Technician I at Sharp Memorial Hospital is responsible for ensuring proper maintenance and distribution of disposable supplies and durable medical equipment for patient care. Responsibilities

  • Communicate any malfunctions or questionable loads to the Lead Technician or Supervisor.
  • Provide appropriate information to facilitate receipt of MSDS.
  • Maintain necessary verbal communication via clear shift reports and communication logs.
  • Notify SPD lead/Nursing units of positive biologicals/wet loads, equipment malfunctions.
  • Obtain approval from resource/charge nurse to process incomplete sets.
  • Complete all initial competencies and demonstrate competency as identified in the on-going assessment and evaluation.
  • Document sterilizer load contents/applies load labels to items.
  • Use charts and printouts to track sterilizer loads, including biological and vacuum testing.
  • Document actions in the event of load recall.
  • Label all implantables for quick identification for quarantine.
  • Assure accurate labeling of instruments/sets.
  • Disassemble multipart instruments, separate heavy and delicate instruments.
  • Inspect instruments/instrument trays for broken, damaged or missing instruments.
  • Reassemble trays, checking for cleanliness and labels according to type.
  • Prepare case carts for surgery according to pick lists/preference cards.
  • Restock carts as assigned and prepare sterilization supplies.
  • Use resources in a cost-effective manner and anticipate surgical needs.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1 Year experience in an acute care hospital, sterile processing, or surgery department or completion of a program for sterile processing/central supply technician

Preferred
