The Nurse Practitioner in Perioperative Anesthesia at Children's Hospital Boston will collaborate with perioperative and anesthesia teams to provide comprehensive care to patients preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively in the main OR and other anesthetizing locations.   • Conducting patient/family interviews and documenting patient medical history, review of systems, physical exam in the preanesthetic evaluation.
  • Communicating the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of anesthesia to patients and families
  • Offering expertise as consultant and educator to peri-operative nursing staff
  • Participating in or leading the collection of data for anesthesia cancelations, criteria changes, and improvement processes
  • Ordering, scheduling, and/or performing laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures such as urinalyses, pregnancy, blood tests, and x-rays
  • Functions as a liaison between the anesthesia attending in charge, primary anesthesia, nursing team, and family to optimize patient care
  • Prescribing and administering premedication prior to anesthesia
  • Assisting the anesthesia team in procedural areas
  • Opportunities exist to become competent in Vascular Access and PICC line placement

Qualifications

Required

  • Master of Science in Nursing
  • Certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner
  • MA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse
  • 5 years of nursing experience in pediatrics (inpatient or outpatient) is preferred

To qualify, you must have:
