This role will encompass sustaining engineering, technical operations engineering, and process development, including validation and design for manufacturing.What will you do!• Plan and handle department budgets on an annual and quarterly basis. The budget includes personnel planning, departmental operating expenses, capital expenditures, and fixturing for new and existing products.• Identify and assign efficient projects to departmental members, including manufacturing engineers and technicians, to meet corporate and departmental goals. Develop the schedule and verify the quality of these projects to ensure they are completed satisfactorily and on time. Analyze technology trends and human resource needs to plan projects.• Lead all aspects of the transfer of new products into production. This includes ensuring the designs are manufacturable and have acceptable production yields. Work with Engineering to specify and procure capital equipment and fixturing.• Collaborate with the Process Development group and other production personnel to develop improved processes and tooling to reduce labor time and costs. This includes leading automation projects involving hardware and software.• Apply expertise and leadership to develop the team and work with suppliers to address technical challenges during projects.• Lead, mentor, supervise, and develop team members. Provide direction for the interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.• Process improvement culture to continuously improve FPY (First Pass Yield) to stabilize production.• Maintain an understanding of safety policies and laws to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.• Ensure robust validation processes are in place and adhered to, guaranteeing that all manufacturing processes meet quality and regulatory requirements.• Drive design for manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure ease of manufacturing, cost-effectiveness, and high quality.How will you get here.Education• Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.Experience:• At least 10 years of shown experience in global analytical instruments and/or medical device companies.• Shown experience (5 years) in managing a team.• Solid understanding and expertise in analytical design and development is helpful.• Experience with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other related process improvement tools.• Experience with business transformation and organizational change related to automation is strongly preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:• Analytical: Synthesizes sophisticated or diverse information; Collects and researches data; Uses intuition and experience to complement data; Designs workflows and procedures.• Design: Generates creative solutions; Translates concepts and information into images; Uses feedback to modify designs; Applies design principles; Demonstrates attention to detail.• Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Captures and analyzes information strategically; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem-solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics and demonstrates a strong ability to influence.• Project Management: Develops project plans; Coordinates projects; Communicates changes and progress; Completes projects on time and budget; Leads project team activities.• Delegation: Delegates work assignments; Matches the responsibility to the person; Gives authority to work independently; Sets expectations and monitors delegated activities; Provides recognition for results.• Digital Literacy: Extensive understanding of MS-Windows applications (Word, Excel, Project); JMP, Minitab, FactoryTalk Automation Software.Personal protective equipmentSafety Glasses, Safety Shoes or Protective Slip-ons when in warehouse or plantAbout Thermo Fisher ScientificOur Mission is to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.
