The Safety and Compliance Manager at Bema Incorporated is responsible for conducting safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluating performance, identifying corrective actions, and implementing follow-up assessments. This role involves planning, implementing, and conducting preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs, enforcing health and safety policies to establish a culture of safety, and managing environmental safety & health programs at all company locations. The manager will also work closely with management to develop and maintain an Emergency Action Plan, investigate accidents or incidents, and maintain records and statistics of workplace safety.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
  • Plans, implements, and conducts preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs.
  • Enforces policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
  • Plans, implements, manage, and maintains comprehensive environmental safety & health programs at all company locations.
  • Provides production and office staff with guidance on health and safety and confirms company locations meet industry, local, state, and federal guidelines, and regulations.
  • Works with management to develop and maintain an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for company injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management.
  • Monitors compliance to safety policies and procedures by inspecting employees and operations. Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence.
  • Inspects equipment, machinery, and facilities to observe possible unsafe conditions.
  • Investigates accidents or incidents in a timely manner to discover causes, provide corrective actions and handle worker’s compensation claims.
  • Guarantees that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies and procedures, contract documents, OSHA guidelines where applicable.
  • Provides technical support to staff.
  • Develops and maintains project costs where applicable.
  • Oversees timely preparation and submission of environmental reporting.
  • Coordinates and monitors schedule updates, invoices, and submittals.
  • Maintains records and statistics of workplace safety. Reports to senior management on safety awareness initiatives, open issues, and safety statistics.
  • Participates in team meetings and provides regular updates on projects and other safety and environmental initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Proven experience as safety manager – 4 years’ experience or equivalent degree
  • Deep understanding of legal, health and safety guidelines
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
  • Risk assessment/management
  • Administrative policies and procedures

Preferred

  • High School diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in safety, Health or related discipline preferred.
  • Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, OSHA, 30-hour General Safety and Industry Standards plus familiarity with DOE 10 CFR Part 851 highly desirable.
