Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Process Engineering, or similar Life Science or Engineering degree.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification is required.
  • 6 to 8 years of experience as a Lean Value Stream Manager / leader.
  • SME knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing, packaging, and testing equipment.
  • Experience in generic pharmaceutical operations is desirable.
  • SME in Lean Manufacturing, process excellence, and Kaizen techniques.

Preferred

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification is desired.

Overview

Lupin is comprised of a fast growing, innovative and robust team of manufacturing, Research and Development and commercial divisions. Together these entities make up the generic and branded U.S. business. Lupin has a significant generic pipeline, and a branded focus on women's health. Our first Research and Development facility in the US is located in Coral Springs, Florida which focuses on generic and branded orally inhaled and nasal drug products. Somerset, New Jersey is home to one of Fifteen commercial manufacturing sites globally and the only commercial manufacturing facility in the United States for Lupin, as well as additional Research and Development teams. Responsibilities

Summary:

The Operational Excellence Engineer (OpEx) reports directly to the Head, of Manufacturing Science and Technology and will lead the OpEx program for Lupin's Somerset facility. The OpEx engineer position leads the cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for productivity improvements in the workforce, machine, material, and methods and implement actions to bring efficiencies through improved productivity and quality in the products and processes. The Operational Excellence Engineer will be the driving force behind improving the efficiencies in manufacturing and quality operations. This role is pivotal in championing and executing Lean initiatives in the Lupin Somerset facility, transforming operations through process improvement systems. The Somerset facility manufactures and packages solid, powder, and liquid dosage form pharmaceuticals.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the overall site OpEx program and culture of continuous improvement to deliver high performance and behaviors.
  • Collect and analyze data using statistical tools and methods on key processes. Identify improvement opportunities in all cross-functional departments for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead/facilitate root cause analysis (problem-solving) using lean principles.
  • Develop and implement operational excellence strategies and metrics. Facilitate the creation of productivity standards across all operational functions.
  • Collaborate with the global OpEx team and site functional leaders to establish the best in industry standards.
  • Implement Lean Six Sigma initiatives using tools such as Kaizen, Kanban, Recognition, 5S, TPM, DDS, and RCPS programs.
  • Identify and lead quality improvement through the Six Sigma program to improve and sustain the robustness of the products through statistical methodologies.
  • Establish key metrics for operational performance and work closely with operation
  • Lead projects that require improvement initiatives involving Lean Six Sigma methods. Focus on lean implementations such as 5S, Mistake proofing, SMED, RCA, and VSM
  • Drive sustained operational improvements using Lean Principles that impact Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through facilitation of lean activities and mentorship of employees.
  • Create and implement a Visual Factory Management system including visual boards, and a productivity tracker resulting in training key shop floor personnel to calculate and track by line our operational equipment efficiency (OEE)
  • Exhibitleadership and influence behaviors to drive continuous process improvement initiatives across all levels of the organization
  • Train site teams to improve their performance, reduce variation in cycle times of bottleneck operations, and reduce overall lead times. Train and coach team members on Six Sigma tools and support Green Belt and Black Belt certifications.
  • Track and trend gaps in actual labor hours utilization against the standards for all units of operation across the site and enable site teams to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Implement "Best Practices" for process optimization to drive continuous process improvement initiatives across all levels of the organization. Identify inefficiencies to reduce cost.
  • Lead diagnosis of workflow impediments and other wastes throughout the business and provide experienced counsel on appropriate Lean/6 Sigma tools to eliminate them.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Process Engineering, or similar Life Science or Engineering degree.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification is required. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification is desired.
  • 6 to 8 years of proven experience as a Lean Value Stream Manager / and or leader experience including process improvements and application of Lean and Shop Floor management techniques in a pharmaceutical operations environment
  • SME knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing, packaging, and testing equipment. Experience in generic pharmaceutical operations is desirable
  • Must be an SME in Lean Manufacturing, process excellence, and Kaizen techniques (or similar efficiency techniques in the workplace)

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements of the position generally include: standing, walking, sitting, using hands and fingers, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and hearing. In some circumstances, bending, kneeling, crouching, stooping, and crawling may apply. This position may require lifting up to 35 pounds occasionally. Generally, work is performed in office and manufacturing environments.
