The Director of Leveraged Finance at Barclays is responsible for assessing and approving credit applications based on established credit policies, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.   • Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.

Overall purpose of role

The person taking on the role will require a strong understanding of the drivers, opportunities and challenges of the US leveraged finance markets, have extensive experience in Leveraged Finance transactions and needs to be familiar with all associated credit products including their inherent risks as well as best practices with regard to the execution of protective legal documentation and other risk mitigants.

Key Accountabilities
  • Maintain integrity of credit risk function whilst ensuring that the team continues to fully support Front Office relationship and sales staff.
  • Use expert lender experience to support deal teams through early engagement and providing input into shaping and structuring transactions
  • Ensure timely identification of adverse risks within portfolio and early engagement / referral to Special Asset Management where appropriate.
  • Ensure that the approvals are within the defined Limits and Mandate and Scale set for the Sector.
  • Lead and participate in broader projects and initiatives for Risk

Stakeholder Management and Leadership
  • Act as a point of contact within WCS Risk for the various Sales, IBD, Coverage, Product, Portfolio Management, Multi-National Corporate Banking teams.
  • Development of personal contacts with all product teams and related support functions.
  • Counterparty/borrower due diligence, including participation in conference calls/meetings with client senior management, Relationship Executives, and Sales personnel.

Decision-making and Problem Solving
  • Approve utilization of sanctioned limits within discretion and approve excesses within authority of agreed limits and ownership of resolution.

Risk and Control Objective
  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.

Salary / Rate Minimum: $ 225,000

Salary / Rate Maximum: $ 325,000
