Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a safety-oriented strategy across the region and measure, report and achieve key metric goals
  • Develop specific environmental, health and safety objectives and create action plans to meet those objectives
  • Develop strong trusting relationships to gain support and achieve results
  • Effectively envision, develop, and implement new strategies to address competitive, complex business issues
  • Manage multiple conflicting priorities
  • Maintain, review and report safety performance
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, along with implementing preventative and corrective actions as required
  • Work with regional leadership teams to ensure all key safety operational controls are in place and the safety action items are resolved on a timely basis
  • Create a proactive approach to safety excellence through cross functional cooperation, communication, and training
  • Develop and/or coordinate safety training and training tools
  • Integrate and partner with business leaders to promote a proactive safety culture focused on incident prevention and regulatory compliance
  • Oversee internal health and safety audit actions to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Manage implementation of site-specific health and safety programs to ensure regulatory and corporate standards are effectively integrated into standard operating procedures
  • Provide Safety Policy guidance and interpretation to field management when appropriate
  • Ensure countermeasures are properly identified to prevent reoccurrence by utilizing a robust incident investigation process
  • Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with Safety Team and Lead Safety Manager to develop solutions, programs, and policies
  • Provide strategy in the development or deployment of a behavior-based safety program
  • Ensure timely coordination of all regulatory or Company required testing and training, including industrial hygiene testing
  • Maintain Safety Information System records and compile reports from database

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety or related disciplines
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
  • Minimum of 3 - 8 years in Safety field, preferably in heavy/highway construction
  • Knowledge of MUTCD guidelines
  • OSHA 500 certification
  • First Aid/CPR certified
  • Proven ability to train large groups of employees
  • Knowledge of OSHA 1910 & 1926 rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all other applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations
  • Must possess a theoretical and practical knowledge of regulatory standards
  • Exceptional skills in building interpersonal relationships, including a high degree of judgment, diplomacy, and ability to influence others
  • Ability to drive decision making process to conclusions/solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, consulting, conflict management, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
  • Excellent client management and business literacy skills
  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels
  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Take initiative to identify and anticipate organizational needs and make recommendations for implementation

The Position:
