Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Laboratory Point of Care (POC) testing program to assure compliance with federal, state, and laboratory accreditation standards.

  • Investigate and respond to any inquiries concerning POC testing.
  • Document corrective action and evaluate the effectiveness of quality control.
  • Enroll POC testing in required proficiency testing programs and monitor users' proficiency.
  • Collaborate with system laboratory POC resources to establish best practices.
  • Monitor and maintain computerized result reporting for POC tests.
  • Develop and review policies and procedures for specimen collection, test performance, quality control, and resulting.
  • Cost-effectively use reagents and supplies; maintain appropriate inventory of supplies.
  • Participate and monitor orientation, training, and competency assessment of testing personnel for POC tests.

Qualifications

Required

  • B.S. degree in Medical Technology with 3 years of clinical laboratory experience OR B.S. degree in one of the Chemical, Physical, or Biological Sciences with 3 years of clinical laboratory experience
  • Three years' experience as a Medical Technologist
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrates a service-oriented approach when working with other departments
  • Proficient with PCs, Microsoft Office programs, and other information systems

UPMC Shadyside is excited to be hiring a full-time Point of Care Coordinator (Medical Lab Scientist) to help support the laboratory! This position is scheduled for the daylight shift Monday through Friday, with no weekends or holidays!

The Point of Care testing team is made up of Point of Care Coordinators (POCC) across UPMC. We work as a team to develop best practices in POC for the system! In this exciting role, you would have the opportunity to oversee the day-to-day operations of Point of Care (POC) testing activities outside of the hospital's main laboratory. This role coordinates work-related tasks to ensure testing is performed within acceptable safety and quality control guidelines. It also ensures that regulatory and compliance requirements are met. You would have the ability to understand all technical aspects of POC Testing, including methodology and instrumentation. You would also function as the expert advisor on POC testing methods and suggest and implement local applications!

POCC roles are eligible for a generous sign-on bonus of up to $10,000 for those who qualify!
