Position: Asst. Cook

Supervisor: Cafeteria Manager/Nutritional Services Director

Description: Perform various tasks related to school breakfast and lunch. Serve on the line. Clean all cooking areas. Wash dishes and lunch trays. Count money at the end of the day. Assist Cafeteria Managers and Food Service Director when needed

NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

Essential Functions:
  • Ensure safety of students
  • Performs duties of server, cashier, dishwasher, prep cook, etc. as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager
  • Ensure safety of students
  • Receive payment for cafeteria lunches and milk and may operate point of sale during lunch periods
  • Restock milk when needed
  • Fill condiments when needed
  • Keep current list of free and reduced price lunches
  • Ensure that appropriate paperwork is completed
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., free and reduced lunch students
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, parents and community
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required
  • See that napkins, silverware, straws, and condiments are in ample supply during serving of students
  • Help restock items and general cleanup
  • Assist in cleaning cooking area, serving areas, and cafeteria tables and floors
  • Assists in meal prep as assigned
  • Assists in serving meals and steam table set-up and cleaning
  • Assists in dish room set up at the three-compartment sink and dish machine
  • Ensure proper function and temperature recording of dish machine, wash and rinse temperatures
  • Ensure proper PPM of sanitizer in three-compartment sink and that all chemicals are properly functioning in three-sink compartment and dish machine
  • Promote good public relations
  • Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens
  • Knowledge of computers skills, emails, and spreadsheets

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to rigid sanitary standards in wok and attire
  • Audit the daily milk bill to ensure its accuracy
  • Complete food services timesheets
  • Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Less than one year related experience
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
  • CPR preferred
  • ServSafe Food Handler or equivalent
