The English Second Language Teacher at Renaissance Charter School is responsible for guiding and supporting the school's mission to foster educated, responsible, and humanistic young leaders through the development of integrated subject matter and innovative approaches to learning. Responsibilities

  • Guide and support The Renaissance community in fulfilling its mission and charter goals
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships and constructive interactions with students, families, colleagues, and administration
  • Create and maintain an engaging and organized physical classroom environment
  • Maximize instruction, safe, and disciplined learning environment
  • Uphold all school policies within the classroom
  • Collaborate with grade team and coordinators to create integrated units of study
  • Participate in grade-level team and curricular planning meetings
  • Differentiate instruction to support student learning
  • Collaborate with the Special Education department to meet the needs of all students
  • Implement interventions recommended for students as outlined by an IEP, support services or the counseling department
  • Maintain organized records of anecdotal notes and assessments
  • Administer formal and informal assessments throughout the school year
  • Use assessment data to modify unit plans, inform groupings, and support student referrals
  • Establish and maintain ongoing positive relationships with families

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s Degree or pursuing a Master’s in Education
  • ELL certification
  • New York State teaching certification

Preferred

  • New York State TESOL license

Classroom Responsibilities

● Model strong written and verbal skills

Curriculum and Instruction

● Collaborate with grade team and coordinators to create rich, integrated units of study

● Full participate in grade-level team and curricular planning meetings

● Adhere to grade level pacing calendars

● Use lesson plans to help drive instruction

● Submit necessary curriculum documents (e.g. curriculum maps, lesson plans) as requested

● Differentiate instruction in meaningful ways to support student learning

● Collaborate with the Special Education department to help meet the needs of all students

● Understand and implement interventions recommended for students as outlined by an IEP,

support services or the counseling department


Assessment

● Maintain organized records of anecdotal notes and assessments

● Administer formal and informal assessments throughout the school year

● Use assessment data to modify unit plans, inform groupings, and support student referrals

● Use assessment data to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners


Parent and Family Engagement

● Establish and maintain ongoing positive relationships with families

● Appropriately give and receive feedback to/from students, parents, staff and administration

● Keep families well-informed of student performance and progress

● Provide feedback and guidance to classroom assistants
